The Riverton National Guard was organized on November 3, 1903. It is the oldest National Guard unit in Wyoming and has served continuously since then. The Riverton National Guard is currently composed of more than 130 men and women who are sworn to serve our country with honor. The first unit to be organized in Riverton was the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. These soldiers were sent to fight in World War I and were very successful. They had a lot of bravery and heroism for their efforts. After World War I, the 1st Cavalry Regiment was formed in Riverton and served during the Korean War as well. Today, the Riverton National Guard is one of the most capable units in Wyoming because we have many years of experience fighting for our country and providing service to our community. Our members are proud to serve their country and protect our citizens from harm.

The Riverton, Wyoming National Guard was organized on July 1, 1907. The first national guard unit in the state of Wyoming was formed at Riverton. It was called the 15th Cavalry Regiment and it served for two years. On July 1, 1912, the regiment was redesignated as the 6th Cavalry Regiment and it served until November 1935 when it was disbanded.
Riverton is a small town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. The community is named after the river that runs through it. Riverton is located on the Republican River, which forms part of the border between Sheridan and Carbon counties. The first settler in Riverton was George Davenport in 1868. A post office was established at Riverton in 1875, and remained in operation until 1903. The community began to grow rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s as farmers moved into the area from eastern Wyoming and other parts of America. By 1940, there were over 1,000 residents in Riverton. During World War II, many local businesses contributed to the war effort by manufacturing munitions or providing services such as trucking materials to military bases around the country. During the 1960s and 1970s,riverton experienced a rapid growth rate as people moved into new housing developments along Highway 194 (now Interstate 90). This development led to increased traffic congestion on Highway 194 and caused a number of health problems for residents who lived near highways. In 2007,riverton voters approved a $5 million bond issue to improve infrastructure within the community including paving streets and installing streetlights. This project was completed in 2009 and resulted in an increase of traffic flow on Highway 194 from its previous condition without causing any health problems for residents

During the Revolutionary War, there were militias made up of volunteers from all over America. These militias were essential because they had no professional military training and could not be called into service if needed. The militia functioned as an emergency police force and fought against British forces. After the Revolution, national guard gifts continued to be given out in support of patriotic causes. In 1792, President George Washington issued a proclamation designating November 5th as National Guard Day. This event marked the first time that the government acknowledged that members of the national guard could provide assistance during times of crisis. Throughout most of the 1800s, national guard gifts continued to be given out in support of patriotic causes. However, due to legislation passed by Congress in 1802 which limited military activity within American borders, many national guard gifts stopped being given altogether. In 1814, General James Knoppers ordered 1,500 men from New York state's 2nd Regiment Infantry to march on Washington D.C., in order to demand free trade with Great Britain. This event is known as The Battle of Bull Run and is considered one of the turning points in American history. This period saw a large increase in military spending by both federal and state governments and led to concerns about whether or not these expenditures were necessary or excessive. As a result, it was only after 1861 when gift giving began again within our country's National Guardsman community Gift giving within our nation's National Guardsman community resumed after World War II when Gifts became more commericalized through mass media such as television shows like "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Brady Bunch". Since then (the late 1990s), there has been an increasing trend towards giving items such as collectibles or functional equipment instead of traditional gifts like clothes or books
The National Guard was initially organized as a militia in 1792. The guard was expanded to an army in 1802. The Guard was renamed the Army National Guard in 1916. The NationalGuard became an independent branch of the U.S. government on July 1, 1949.
Riverton is a town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Great Lakes–Hudson Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by parents of James Riverton in 1875 after he and his family homesteaded in what is now Riverton. James's father had been killed when frontier scout Major John Chivington was ambushed and capturing General George Armstrong Custer on the Little Big Horn near Riverton on April 6, 1876. Captain William Hite of Company K Fourth Cavalry led an attack against Chivington's wagon train just east of the town on July 20, 1876 that resulted in three men dead and twenty-five wounded. In 1887, riverboats arrived at the mouth of the Green Fork to transport goods from Lake Erie to market in Denver County. A mill built onthe banks of the Green Fork became an important economic center for Riverton until it closed during World War II due to heavy demand for military munitions shipped through land routes into Canada. The mill has been restored as a museum and operates as a Visitor Services Center for nearby Great Lakes National Park concessionaires operated by National Park Service (NPS). The first school openednorthwest of present day RiverTON two years lateron November 3rd1887 by Mrs Mosley with 8 pupils in her home which also served as church and storeroom until 1889 when a school building erected by Mr Moses became available southsideof present day Highway 24/26 which forms most eastern borderof town limits today ( Map 10 ). On October 15th 1890 Northwest School District Meeting voted to merge with Laramie County Schools forming NWLLD which held its first meeting November 14th 1890 at Masonic Hall located north side School lot across from Post Office). In 1893 NWLLD approved purchase from Laramie County Commissioners of one lots located north sideSchool lot across from Post Office)for use as Middle School campus). That same yearNWLLD also purchased 2 buildings north sideBuilding lot across fromPost Office) used as classrooms while still awaiting approval from LaramieCounty Commissioners who were unable or unwilling to sell property they had already acquired adjacentto existing high school campus.) By 1896 all buildings except main Administration Complex including both Administration Buildingand Attendance Building were completed having cost $2700( Map 11 ). Main Administration Building was dedicated September 29th 1896andoingan event attendedby Governor Evanston Dodge US Senator Richard M Anderson US Congressman Charles B Smith local residents Dr Wm L Garretsen Mayor J F Curryalong with many members of community ) . New building included Cafeteria, Library & Gymnasium etc.) . Most schools consolidation occurredin western Wyoming during this time butNWLLD remained separate until 1959 when all schools within Greater Sheridan Community merged under one banner becoming NorthWyoming Community Schools ). Today NorthWyoming Community Schools continue operations using former Highschool campuses located NE cornerofHighway 24/26 & NE cornerofOld Loop Road .)
The first white people to reside in what is now Riverton were the Cheyennes. They founded a village on the banks of the Snake River in 1827, and named it after their own tribe, the Kiowa. The town rapidly grew and by 1830 was known as a major center for trade and transportation on the Missouri River. In 1847, settlers from Iowa arrived in what is now Riverton and quickly started trading with Native Americans. By 1850, there were over 200 people living in Riverton.
