The early years of this era were difficult for Riverton because of lack of transportation and access to markets; however, progress was made over time with increased communication and transportation options as well as better education opportunities for locals and immigrants alike. In 1898, Mayor Wm Halsey organized a committee that recommended thatRiverton be named for Major General George Crook who had fought in both World Wars including operations against Native Americans along the Dakotas (the Sioux Nation). This name change helped attract attention from outside sources which led to further development within Riverton itself including: construction of a school building in 1897; incorporation as a city in 1907; establishment of businesses such as lumberyards and machine shops; addition of churches including one known locally as “The White Lady” which served as both community center and religious instruction until 1969; growth of tourism which has brought increased economic stability to town since 1978; expansion into adjacent counties including Logan County proper which has led to job creation within local governments as well as expanding retail presence throughout downtowns throughout southwestern Logan County .
