Laramie is a small town located in Sheridan County, Wyoming. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sheridan County and home to the Laramie Community College. Many of Laramie's residents are ranchers who have been living in the area for generations. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Wyoming were fur trappers and traders from Russia. They named the area "Laramie" after a river they discovered there. The post office was established in 1881, and by 1907 there were over 100 businesses in town. Businesses such as grocery stores, banks,ivery services, dentists, lawyers, and carpenters helped make Laramie one of the most thriving towns on the continent during those years. By 1930 there were only 336 residents living in town; however, it continued to grow slowly until World War II when it reached its peak with over 2,000 people living here. During World War II many of Laramie's residents joined military service and many factories were built here including Ford Motor Company which manufactured vehicles for American troops overseas. After 1945 much of the population decamped to other parts of Wyoming or left for good when local economic conditions declined following wars fought elsewhere around the world. However growth resumed following initial declines as new housing developments began sprouting up throughout Sheridan County thanks to federal government funding given to counties experiencing rapid growth during that time period - among them Sheridan County itself! Today most people who call Laramie home come from outside of Sheridan County - specifically from neighboring Carbon-Forrest-Vail counties which have seen an influx of people seeking more affordable housing opportunities than what has been available within their borders since before any kind of recent development had taken place within these areas!
