One important aspect of Green River's history is its connection with Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West Show. The show started out as a small tent show on college campuses across America before expanding into other venues such as England and Europe during the late 1800s and early 1900s. A number of events associated with Cody were held in Green River throughout these years- including exhibitions at Joe Blacksmith’s forge where he made saddles and tools, parades down Main Street where participants could buy souvenirs (such as hats), carnivals (where he performed stunts), various family reunions (where members could get together to share memories), and more importantly- music shows at local churches which helped promote cowboy culture around the country (and sometimes inside North America). Today, you can still see pieces of this history all around town- particularly in Joe Blacksmith’s forge where you can purchase saddle leather items from him or listen to Western music playing inside his shop while you wait for your turn to billet horseshoes at his forge!
