Evanston, Wyoming is a city located in Laramie County, Wyoming. It was founded on November 15, 1868 by George Evanston and named after him. The population of Evanston was 2,269 at the 2010 census. As of the census of 2020, it had grown to 3,811 people. Evanston is aDemocrat-dominated city with a large African American population. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Wyoming were the French in 1776 and they built Fort Laramie near today's Evanston. The British also came to Wyoming during this time but left behind no permanent settlements other than Fort Bridger on the Snake River. In 1868, George Evanston traveled down the Platte River and saw that there was an ample amount of land for settlement if it could be accessed from east to west. He bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land from David Thompson for $5 per acre ($100 per hectare). This purchase brought about what would become known as "Evanston Township." The town was founded on November 15th, 1868 by George Evanston and named after him – one day before Nebraska became a state! At first only men were allowed to live in the town because there wasn't enough space for them all! By 1870 there were over 100 residents living in Evanston! In 1893, Evanston Elementary School opened its doors to students from grades kindergarten through eighth grade! The school closed in 1985 but has been preserved as part of the downtown core of Evanston since then. The original building which still stands today was built in 1895 and served as both an elementary school and post office until 1985 when it closed due to budget cuts within the government agency that ran that center at that time. However, thanks to some fundraising efforts by citizens who found out about it (it sat vacant until 1993), new funding eventually restored the building back into use as an elementary school again! A number of businesses have also been situated around Evanston throughout its history including: Horseshoe Casino & Hotel (now owned by MGM Resorts International), Masonic Lodge #2 (now defunct), First National Bank/Masonic Temple No 1 (closed 1984), Mr./Mrs.'s Bakery & Cafe (closed 1990s), Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Emporium Store #1&2(closed 1990s; currently used as Park Plaza hotel rooming facility) and finally Bechtel Corporation's Engineering Laboratories annex which now houses local art organizations such as Painted Lady Gallery and Black Diamond Gallery There are also several parks located within walking distance or more importantly just minutes away like Euclid Park which offers basketball courts for children aged 8 years old up through high schoolers along with a playground complete with swingset and slide etc., Sheridan Valley Park with tennis courts available for use during summer months while Forest Hills park offers baseball diamonds etc., among others! There are even several golf courses located within easy reach like Green Mountain Golf Course closeby while another nearby course called Northview Golf Course allows players of all abilities access without having their score lowered any lower than handicap status!
