In the early 1860s, Evanston, Wyoming was a thriving community of around 2,000 people. The town was founded by John M. Gifford in 1859 and quickly became a center for gun culture and trade. By 1870, guns were being traded and stored in local stores and homes. Gun laws were lax at the time, so firearms were often acquired through arms dealing or bartering. The early years of the 20th century saw a decline in gun ownership in Evanston. Residents began to favor other forms of transportation over owning firearms, which led to an overall decrease in firearm inventories and usage. However, during World War I (1914-18), Evanston became an important munitions production center due to its proximity to Chicago and its ability to stockpile weapons from across America. This helped fuel demand for firearms once again after the war ended. Gun ownership regained popularity in Evanston during the 1930s as a result of new regulations put into place following the Second World War (1945-1946). These regulations included stricter licensing requirements and limits on magazine capacity. As a result, gun possession increased once again throughout the 1950s and 1960s; however, it has since declined significantly throughout this period. Evanston is a town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Evanston is the county seat of Sheridan County and home to two universities - Northern Arizona University and Western Illinois University - as well as several businesses and parks. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Evanston were fur traders working for the Russian fur company Eider. In 1827, General James Halleck founded Fort Laramie on the east side of the Platte River in what is today Evanston. The plat of land that formed today's Evanston was surveyed by Nicholas Watrous in 1828. On July 4, 1830, Judge Samuel Seward purchased from Russia a grant of 640 acres (2 square miles) along the south side of present-day Chicago Avenue from Chief Joseph Black Elk for $5 per acre ($20 total). Seward named this new community "Evanston" after his old home town in England. Settlement began shortly thereafter with about 20 pioneers arriving between September 1830 and November 1831. By December 8, 1830, construction had begun on what would become Northwestern School District No., one of three school districts created by an act passed by Congress on March 3, 1830 which reorganized certain sections of Jackson County into four districts under the jurisdiction of Jackson Township . The first building erected in "Evanston" was a log cabin known as Adam's Cabin which served as headquarters for First Indian War Captain John Lubbock during negotiations leading up to his surrender at Fort Bridger on October 16, 1846. The original flour mills built near downtown Evansville were powered by water brought overland from segments of the Platte River above present day North Park Boulevard and First Street; they opened December 6th 1840s when wheat prices became high enough to justify their investment. Starting with just 10 bushels/acre (4 kilos/hectare), these mills produced 100 bushels/acre (40 kilograms/hectare) worth of flour each until 1862 when a larger mill was built next door calledthe “First National Bank” which later became part of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company . In 1870 local physician Drury erected a large frame house at 5th & Michigan Streets which he used as his medical office until moved to its current location at 9th & Michigan Streets in 1909 following damage done by fire . He also constructed a small structure known as “Drury’s House” off Kimball Ave between 5th & 6th Streets that still stands today providing office space for Northwestern State College students and faculty members related to health care services provided within Northwestern Memorial Hospital proximate thereto including obstetric services delivered therein since 1912 On May 12 th 1880 Wm J McNally organized an agricultural society herewith calling himself President pro tempore thereofand having established two stores viz: shop #1(later Wm A Turner store)at 751 Nw Main St cornering W Chicago Aveand store #2(later S R Presley store)at 730 Nw Main St cornering E State StNumerous other branches soon followedincluding: feed store #1(later C A Sprague store)at 610 Nw Washington Ave cornering I Canada St ;sawmill #1(later M A Palmer sawmill)at 504 Nw Illinois Ave cornering I Wisconsin Ave ;grain elevator #1(later G F Harper grain elevator)& hatchery #1(later P O Arneson hatchery )were among these early enterprises . By 1886 there were ten stores operating herein combined with one grocery store operated jointly by Geo B Blankenship & Orson Pratt

Evanston, Wyoming is a small town in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census, down from 6,898 at the 2000 census. Evanston is located on the eastern edge of Sheridan County and is bordered by Cheyenne County to the north and east, Hidetown to the south and west, and Waco to the northwest. The town was founded in 1875 as an agricultural settlement on a tract of land bought by John Eaton from Black Hawk War Chief Little Wolf. The first post office was established in 1876. Evanston grew rapidly after it became known as an agricultural center due to its crop production and its location near major transportation routes. By 1902, Evanston had become an incorporated city with a mayor and five council members. In 1907, Edwin Wirth founded Wirth-Lodge fame as a camp for Boys Scouts that helped promote outdoor fitness and camping skills among boys across America. In 1916, Evanston annexed adjacent towns of Hiderstown and Loveland into its city limits; these towns had petitioned for annexation but were not given approval until much later because their populations did not reach those of Evanston's original two settlements. On July 1, 1922, Evanston became one of the first cities in United States history to implement public education through mutual aid contracts with nearby Laramie County schools; this system allowed students from all over Sheridan County to attend local schools without having to travel too far or pay expensive tuition fees. In 1951–1952, during construction on Interstate 80 between Laramie and Jackson Hole (the long section now known as I-80/I-25), parts of Evanston were destroyed by fire; this event helped prompt Congress to pass landmark legislation establishing regulations governing urban development within historical boundaries such as those around Evansville Junction (now downtown Laramie).
