The Wyoming Air National Guard flew in support of Operation Desert Storm from December 1991 to January 1992. The unit’s C-130 Hercules transport plane was equipped with three bombs and two missiles, in order to drop them on targets in Kuwait City. The air force deployed more than 350 gifts during the deployment, many of which were given to local businesses and organizations by members of the military.

In Casper, Wyoming, the USAF deployed a gift history in honor of the Air Force's service members and their families. The event was attended by military members and their families from all over the country, as well as representatives from the National Guard and Reserves. There were remarks from Major General Rick Scarpa, Commander of Area 11 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Wash., who dedicated the gift history to Service Members and Their Families during an event honoring National Guard and Reserve members on October 1st.
Casper, Wyoming is a small town located in the northwest corner of the United States. As of 2010, its population was 609. During World War II, Casper became one of two U.S. towns located within 10 miles of Topeka, Kansas during Allied bomber operations against Japan. However, as airmen and their families grew more involved in service, they started to remember and cherish all the memorable gifts they had received. From Sidewinder missiles to air-to-air refueling tankers, the USAF has gifted many items over the years – some more famous than others. Here is a look at some of the most notable USAF gifts: 1) The Sidewinder Missile – this deadly missile was first bestowed upon then-Air Force Brigadier General Arthur C. Schlesinger Jr. for his valiant efforts during World War II. Schlesinger used Sidewinders to annihilate thousands of Axis forces during campaigns in Europe and Asia. 2) The Boeing E-4D Skyhawk jet aircraft – this venerable fighter jet was originally donated to the USAF by Boeing Company Chairman Alfred P. Sloan in 1969 as part of an effort to expand American airspace domination post-Vietnam War. The E-4D became one of America’s most popular military jets and remains in service today with numerous operators around the world. 3) A KC-135 Stratotanker tanker – this amazing aircraft was donated by Lockheed Martin Corporation president Robert Lighthizer “for use as an airborne command post, liaison unit between ground forces and aviation assets” during Operation Desert Storm in 1990–1991). The KC-135 served as America’s primary aerial refueling asset during that conflict and continues its essential role today across multiple conflicts around the world!
Casper is the seat of Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the eastern part of Sheridan County on the Casper-Omaha Railroad. It was founded in 1875 by Ida W. Wells and her husband George S. Wells as a depot on the Union Pacific Railroad between Fort Kearny and Omaha. The community was named for Danish immigrant Rasmus Casper who purchased land in what is now Sheridan County in 1875. At that time, most of northeastern Wyoming was still part of Mexico and there were few settlements other than Omaha or Laramie because those towns depended upon access to trade with Mexico City for goods and services. The first post office opened in Casper on November 3, 1875, serving residents of the east side of Sheridan County only. It was moved to its present location in 1880 due to lack of space at the original depot. The primary means of transportation then was horse and wagon travel which took days to get from one end of Sheridan County to the other; Today's expressway allows instantaneous travel between Casper and Omaha without having to ride horses or wagons! In 1903, when Nebraska became a state, Sheridan County joined neighboring Johnson County as it surged westward following territorial expansionist ambitions that had been stoked by President Grover Cleveland’s Frontier Policy initiatives during his first term in office (1897-1901). As a result, Casper became one of three counties created within Johnson County – along with Beech Grove and Seward – rather than within Fremont or Douglas Counties where their respective populations would have placed them had they remained independent jurisdictions. Casper’s growth continued unabated during much of this period; despite restrictions placed on local businesses by county governmental officials based upon economic development metrics favored by county commissioners instead of popular demand or traditional cultural values which may have prevailed among native Anglo-American settlers living adjacent to Indian reservations – including many women who had homesteaded near Buffalo Bill Cody’s famous Wild West showgrounds during this time period!
