Army gifts have been a part of Wisconsin Rapids, WI's history for many years. The city was settled in the late 1800s by American soldiers who fought in the Mexican-American War and the World War I. After the war, General George Armstrong Custer and his unit, the 7th Cavalry Regiment, arrived in town to start training new recruits. This event is celebrated annually on July 4th with a parade through downtown streets and an open-air picnic at State Park. Gifts were given during these times as a way to show soldierly support and appreciation. The United States Army Garrison Commandery first sent out gift parcels to soldiers stationed here during World War II. After the war, donations continued to flow in from people all over Wisconsin Rapids. In 1954, Governor Earl Warren ordered that all military units be disbanded except for those serving within state borders. This order created a need for gifts from outside of Wisconsin Rapids specifically for members of our Armed Forces who were based here. Today, we still see Soldiers visiting us from time to time just to leave their mark on our community - whether it's visiting local businesses or taking part in our annual Fourth of July Parade! Wisconsin Rapids is a small town in the Wallace County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. Wisconsin Rapids was founded by Danish immigrants in 1836. The first post office was established in 1840. By 1860, the town had a total population of 501 people. In 1865, it became a village and in 1875 it became an incorporated municipality
The modern army was born out of the Napoleonic Wars, when armies were needed to fight in multiple theaters. The first modern army was formed in 1809 by Napoleon I of France. During the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Army was formed and fought against the British. The first modern (permanent) military forces were created in 1619 by Louis XIII of France after his victory over Spain at Valmy. In 1792, during the French Revolution, a new constitution was ratified which led to an increase in military spending and a standing army. By 1800, there were more than one million men-at-arms in service across Europe. In 1802, Napoleon Bonaparte became Emperor of France and began to reorganize the Italian Army into a professional force under his own command. After defeating Austria at Austerlitz and Prussia at Jena-Auerstedt, he declared himself emperor of all Europe with an expanded empire that included Russia and Italy as well as most of Germany and Spain. This led to increased concerns over European stability should Napoleon fall or be overthrown. As a result, Napoleonic wars continued until 1814 when he finally fell from power following his defeat at Waterloo. With Napoleon gone, many experts began to debate whether such large armies could ever be managed effectively without him on board; this ultimately led tothe development ofthe permanent military system we know today (i.e., World War I).

Wisconsin Rapids is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, on the north bank of the Menominee River. The population was 2,817 at the 2010 census. It is included in Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis metropolitan statistical area. The first permanent settler in what is now Wisconsin Rapids was David Krieger in 1846. Krieger and his family removed to what is now Racine County from Canada after the American Revolution. In 1847, John Pillsbury founded an ironworks here and made some early purchases of land around present-day Milwaukee. By 1850, Iron Manufacturing Company had been formed with plants at both Wisconsin Rapids and Racine and employed over 1,000 people including many residents of Racine County who helped build those mills along with other local businesses such as lumberyards, wagon shops, blacksmiths,Tool & Die manufacturer Jethro Gibbs and others started by their friends or kinfolk during this time period are still extant today within Walker's Point Historic District boundaries in downtown Milwaukee

The town also experienced some growth during World War II as military installations were established here.
