Air Force Deployed Gift History in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin began on October 1, 1947 when the United States Air Force activated its 512th Bombardment Wing at Presque Isle Army Air Field. The wing's objective was to provide aerial refueling for Allied forces fighting in World War II. The wing was assigned to RAF Little Snoring and became operational on November 8th. The 512th BW flew missions from Little Snoring until December of 1945. Upon its conclusion of hostilities, the wing returned to the United States andactivated at Wright-Patterson AFB on May 1st, 1946. It served with various units before being reassigned to RAF Lakenheath in England on July 15th, 1949 as part of NATO's Cold War deterrence program. The squadron relocated again in 1955 when it moved from RAF Lakenheath to RAF Wallingfordshire which it remained stationed at untilactivated on September 17th, 1961 when it was transferred back to the United States Air Forces Europe located at Ramstein AB Germany where it completed its assignment as a destructive bombardment squadron (D-Day landings were Conducted by Ninth Tactical Air Force) under Second Lt Col James Hargrave USAF (Ret). It is noteworthy that during this time period AAFE also operated an airmobile photo reconnaissance unit using C-47 Skytrains which contributed greatly towards Operation Overlorddimensions airborne battlefield commanders information about enemy positions

Since its inception, the USAF's 512th Airlift Wing has sent many gifts to friends and family in Wisconsin Rapids- some have become long-standing residents, while others have been welcome additions to the community over time. Wisconsin Rapids is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River. The population was 5,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was platted on December 12, 1836, by General John Custer and his fellow officers from Fort Snelling in Minnesota Territory after their forced march through Iowa to reach the west when that territory was organized as the United States during President George Washington's first term in office. The name for what is now Wisconsin Rapids was given to it by General Lewis Cass when he discovered it while exploring what would become present-day Wisconsin in 1779 while surveyor for Francis Westphal under US president James Kentsclamation. Wisconsin Rapids became a town on November 3, 1859, following its incorporation as a city underWisconsin Act No. 269 (1859). The official opening of the new courthouse took place on December 2nd of that year with Mayor Moses Silliman presiding over proceedings attended by Judges William Hickey and Abraham Baldwin and many other distinguished citizens including members of Congress Joel Barlow and Augustus Kelley; Postmaster General Amos Kendall; Honorable Elijah Purdy; Judge David Dudley; Notary Public Jno Paddock; Commissioners Wm Folsom and Geo Shanks with four wagons drawn by six horses each pulled by two men across ice filled shoulders above water level – one below & one ahead – making an appearance much like an oversized riverboat or steamboat launch from then until today! In 1861, due to increasing railroad construction activity in central Wisconsin along both sides of the Fox River between Milwaukee & Racine Counties there was increased demand for goods transported downriver which created more traffic congestion near present day WI Rapids than could be accommodated by existing bridges which caused several attempts over time to build east/west dikes or viaducts crossing either side of rapids but all failed because no money could be raised even though promoters claimed that such crossings would create jobs years into the future when infrastructure development actually began taking place! Finally on October 1st 1865 a group led by Captain Samuel Eliot Morison obtained $10 000 from US Senator “Pete” Mason who had just been elected Vice President under Abraham Lincoln to improve transportation conditions along both sides of river creating so called "Morison Canyon" thus providing access past WI Rapids Falls without having to cross any rapids! This proved very successful as daily shipments upriver increased tenfold within months making this also one of first large scale commercial successes connected directly with American Railroad Development!) A second attempt at crossing occurred on September 30th 1870 but again faileddue primarily to strong current flow resistance opposite falls!! A third attempt occurred successfully on May 25th 1871 using shallow draftboats equipped with high powered engine assisted pumps resulting in passage beyondWI Rapids Dam although boat operators had difficulty getting across due largely to tight currents & high water levels!!! After this final success another effort was made two weeks later using larger boats but again same difficulties encountered!! finally accomplished On January 20th 1872 using an experimental pontoon system towed behind tugboats across lower mainstem stream !! this provided bypassing possible obstruction located upstream adjacentto present day dam !! This provided permanent solution providing rapid transit ability upriver from WI Rapids Landing site (& eventually connecting downtown Milwaukee with Racine County)

Bush’s first term as president; these events underscore America’s dedication to global security and readiness for any contingency situation worldwide.
