Whitewater, Wisconsin is a town of about 38,000 people located in the Driftless Area of west-central Wisconsin. It began as a small farming community in the 1840s and grew rapidly during the late 1800s into an agricultural center with large flour mills and other businesses. The town experienced rapid growth during World War II, when it became an important military base. In recent years Whitewater has become an attractive tourist destination due to its many historical attractions and its easy access to major highways. The national guard was first organized in Whitewater on November 3, 1892. The first officers were Lieutenants John L. Neumann and George Wm. Hesseltine; Sergeant William Aikenbach served as adjutant for two months before his death on January 15, 1893. During the early years of the national guard there was only one permanent detachment at Whitewater - that of Captain Edward Sievers from Green Bay. On July 1, 1898 Captain Sievers resigned from his position with the National Guard after serving for six years as battalion commander of Company F (3rd Battalion) 2nd Regiment Minnesota Infantry Volunteers (MN Volunteers). He remained active in local politics until his death on December 12th, 1938. Captain Sievers’ resignation came about because he felt that being part of a unit that was not combat ready was not what he wanted or needed in his career as a soldier; instead he wanted to focus more on public service work within the community organization which he had joined while still lieutenant colonel in command of Company F (3rd Battalion) 2nd Regiment MN Volunteers while stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesotaduring World War I Captain Sievers played a critical role during World War II by leading Company F's contingent of soldiers who fought against Japan north of Nagasaki where they lost over 60% their number killed or wounded

Whitewater is a village in the Whitewater River valley of Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine-West Allis-based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Whitewater" was first given to this area by French traders in 1641 when they named it "Haute-Witte." On July 5, 1854, James Fenton and his party discovered what would become known as the Whitewater Rapids while exploring for a new route to Milwaukee over the Menominee River. The original town site was upstream from where Whitewater now stands on the east bank of the Whitewater River. The Town of Whitewater was organized in 1855 and became a city in 1961. One of whitewater's earliest residents was Isaac Sibley who settled here around 1800 with his family and began trading goods with Indians along the lower Wisconsin waterways. He established himself as one of Green Bay's early merchants and developed land near present day downtown Green Bay which he used for farming and mills that produced flour, cheese and other goods until he sold it all off in 1865 to start a company serving different communities throughout Northwestern Wisconsin called Janson & Sons Mills Company Limited - one of only two such companies remaining in business at that time statewide. In 1897 John Fenton started operating Wabash Navigation Company downriver from present day Whitewater Falls on what is now known as Mississippi Avenue just northwest of downtown Green Bay; this company transported goods upriver past modern day Whitewater Falls through Wabash Tunnel intoMilwaukee County before discharge at Superior Park on Lake Michigan just south of Downtown Milwaukee proper
The Whitewater Massacre was an event that took place on July 15, 1862, in the town of Whitewater, Wisconsin. A group of men led by Methodist preacher John C. Frémont were hunting game in the area when they came into contact with Native Americans. The men began to fight with the Indians, and soon there were widespread reports of a massacre taking place. There is no evidence to support any of the accusations made against Frémont and his group, and most likely only a small number of people died as a result of this altercation. However, the incident has been used to justify policies designed to suppress Native American rights in Wisconsin.
