Whitewater is a town in and the county seat of Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,610 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. Whitewater is located on the Fox River near its confluence with the Menomonee River. The town was platted in 1836 by Americans who were fleeing memories of an 1834 Battle of Whitewater Creek between American forces and Native Americans. At first, only men were allowed to settle in Whitewater; later women and children were added. The name "Whitewater" comes from a white oak tree that stood on what is now downtown Whitewater. In 1854, landowner Nathan Parker donated 2 acres (0.8 km²) to Racine County for use as a public square in which to serve as a meeting place for early settlers in Racine County; this donation remains today as parkland within city limits of Whitewater. As more people arrived and began purchasing land within the developing town site, developers built homes, businesses, warehouses, churches and other structures in what is now downtown Whitwater during the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1906-1907, developer George Eastman built one ofWisconsin's largest dam projects when he donated 5 miles (8 km) of riverbed along both sides of the Fox River to be developed into farmland irrigation water supply for his new apple orchard project called Eastman Orchard Park located downstream from present-day Racine Municipal Airport/Downtown area). Whitewater is a town in Whitewater County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Racine–West Allis–East Dubuque Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by John Whitewater and his family in 1836 as a log cabin community on the banks of the Fox River. The name "Whitewater" comes from "wet water". When Whitewater became a city in 1903, it annexed the neighboring town of Foster and its lands along the Fox River to form what is now Whitewater City. In 1961, construction began on Racine's first large municipal water filtration plant. By 1970, all but one of Racine's public water systems were using Municipal Water fluoridation to prevent lead poisoning among children. In 1984, Racine became one of only two cities in Wisconsin to allow private citizens to provide drinking water for their homes and businesses through reverse osmosis systems
