The United States Army's deployment of Gift History artillery in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin began on September 9th, 1951. The Artillery Battery 3rd Regiment was ordered to deploy and be committed to the battle against Communist forces in central Asia. This battery was one of only a few Artillery Batteries attached to the 1st Infantry Division at the time and arrived at Buckley Army Airfield early on September 10th. They were not allowed inside due to security concerns. The battery was initially assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 8th Infantry Division which had orders to assault across the Tien Shan Mountains into Inner Mongolia. This company did not arrive in time for their assignment so they were sent back south instead with Company C and Company E from the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team which had also been deployed east towards Vladivostok. On September 12th all batteries were unloaded onto Buckley AFB and begin setting up camp inside tents that would serve as their home for the next four weeks while they awaited orders from higher headquarters. This deployment was much different than any other before it because there were no airfields in central Asia and all army units needed to be transported by truck or train since there wasn't any way for them to easily establish an encampment or provide defense against enemy attack without beingaccopposed to hostile forces nearby. BuckleyArmy Airfield would become home to almost three dozen artillery pieces over the next two years as part of Operation Arrowhead which led up to America's entry into World War II.

Whitefish Bay is a small, unincorporated community located in the town of Whitewater, Wisconsin. It is on the east side of Green Bay and is bordered by the towns of Spooner and Appleton to the south, Menasha to the west, and Dunnville to the north. The community had a population of 170 as of 2010. The first residents were people who came overland from Canada in 1847. They built a log cabin near present-day Whitefish Bay and named it after their whitefishstream upstream from their cabin. In 1851, a party led by John Ladd founded what would become Whitewater Lake. The first post office was established at Whitefish Bay in 1853. The community began to grow with the arrival of railroad service in 1865. The Milwaukee Road built a line from Milwaukee to Green Bay through Whitefish Bay and Menasha in 1869. The track ran through present-day Spooner and Appleton before terminating at Dunnville Station. In 1898, Whitewater Lake was renamed Lake Newaygo after Governor Edwin Mudd's sister-in-law, Lady Newaygo (1846-1927). She donated land for the lake and donated $10,000 for its construction. By 1912, Whitewater had reached its current size with an population of 160 people. The first post office opened in 1912 and served until it closed in 1957 due to competition from other communities on the shores of Lake Newaygo. After having been serving as an important center for commerce during much of its history, Whitefish Bay became an unincorporated community on July 1st 1959 when all village boundaries were unified under one name by virtue of state law following Prohibition becoming law that year statewide

Whitefish Bay (formerly known as Menominee Bay) is a small bay located in the town of Whitefish on the lower Great Lakes region. The bay was named for whitefish, a type of sturgeon, which live in the area. The first European to visit the bay was Father Marquette in 1673 and he called it "Cape Sudbury" after his ship, the Sudbury. In 1814, the United States acquired Treaties of Lodi and Clark with Great Britain and France and designated Whitefish Bay as part of Canada. When America became an independent country, they continued to name Canadian ports after their countries' leaders - this included Whitefish Bay. The first settlement at Whitefish was made by fur traders in 1836. By 1840, there were over 180 businesses operating in Whitefish Bay. The town began to grow rapidly during the 1850s due to shipping activity around Lake Michigan and timber production from the area. In 1855, Colonel John Mapes purchased land at what is now Whiteside Beach for $1,000 and founded Mapes Landing on what is now State Highway 35E near present-day Menominee Beach. Over time Mapes Landing evolved into a major commercial center for lumber production and later served as a stop on stagecoaches travelling between Milwaukee and Chicago.
