West Bend, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 6,844 at the 2010 census and 7,493 at the 2013 estimate. It is part of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area and is located in the West Allis–Waukesha–Bay View area of Milwaukee County. The first settler in what became West Bend was Nicholas Biddle in 1836 when he bought land from Jesse Mayhew for $1,000. Biddle post office opened in 1837 and never received any mail from eastern Wisconsin until 1881 when it was transferred to Milwaukee. The first schoolhouse in West Bend was built by John Noyes on a lot near where present day First Union High School stands. A second schoolhouse was built by Anthony J Fenton about 1850 and it burned down in 1862 . A third schoolhouse, also located near present day First Union High School, served as a military hospital during World War II with students being taught at home by enlisted personnel while they were hospitalized overseas. In 1865, Wauwatosa village formed which became its charter town government with a Town Meeting Yuanr Committee organized to provide services such as justice and fire protection within Wauwatosa village limits; these functions were taken over by the new Village Government when Wauwatosa village disbanded effective September 15th 1870 under orders of Governor Edward M Wright.. On January 1st 1889 two blocks north of present day First Union High School northwest corner bounded by State Road 592 (now I-94) & Racine Avenue broke away from West Bend Township solidifying this section’s status as an independent municipality known as “Northwest Side Township”.. In 1893 Northwest Side Township dissolved creating Southwest Side Township which continues to exist today.. In 1920 Northwest Side Township annexed portions of South Shore township forming what is now called Northeast Side Township.. In 1954 portions of Southeast Side Township collapsed due to heavy flooding caused by Hurricane Maya resulting in another name change to “East side township” effective January 1st 1955 changing most all signage within East side township back to local language names beginning with that year’s paper…..On July 11th 1959 following passage of Act No 2269 (57 Stat 9), all municipalities within Milwaukee County were granted their own elected board including those located inside city limits thereby completing the transition from county government into municipal government within Milwaukee County…Since 1979 Northwest Side Township has been completely unincorporated making it one last stop along your journey through our beautiful community!

In 1848, the United States acquired what is now Wisconsin from France in the Treaty of Paris. The area that was to become West Bend became part of the new state of Michigan. In 1855, a group of settlers named Weed, Appleton and other early pioneers founded the town of West Bend on land that had been donated by judge George Washington Carver. By 1870, West Bend had a population of 350 people and was one of the first towns in Wisconsin to be incorporated as a village. The town's first school was built in 1872 and its first mayor was Wm. H. Jennings. The Badger River Valley gave rise to many industries inWI during the 19th century including lumber, shipbuilding and cheese production. In addition, Milwaukee began becoming an important center for transportation due to its location at the headwaters of both rivers. This allowed for commerce to grow betweenWest Bend and other cities such as Chicago and St Louis, Missouri. During World War II, West Bend played an important role in providing food for soldiers stationed overseas throughout Europe. Not only did they produce food but also wrote down recipes so soldiers could cook their own meals when they got home. After World War II ended, many jobs went away fromWest Bend as factories closed down aroundthe country but becauseof its proximity toMilwaukee it continued to grow economically until it lost its status as a township in 1978
