The business served as a stop for people coming from Chicago to purchase fresh roasted coffee beans. In 1951, the first drive-through coffee shop was opened in West Allis by Harry Pfaff and his wife Norma Mae Pfaff. The couple operated their coffee shop out of their home until they sold it in 1978 to John Heineman and his wife Lillie Heineman. Today, John and Lillie run Heineman Coffee Company out of their house on North Main Street inWest Allis. The Heinemans continue to roast coffee at their home until present day; however, they no longer sell beans directly to consumers but instead provide retail customers with samples of their freshly roasted beans before purchase.
West Allis, Wisconsin is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 73,623 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Milwaukee County. West Allis was platted in 1836 and named for General David Dixon who fought in the American Revolution. The first post office in West Allis was established in 1840. In 1854, the town became a Village when it merged with neighboring towns of North Side and South Side to form one municipality. The boundaries of these towns were changed several times through annexation until they formed what is now Milwaukee County. The city has experienced many changes over its history including annexations by other municipalities; fire department expansion; waves of immigrants coming to America after World War II; and gentrification which began during the late 1990s and continues today. Although built around agriculture and manufacturing through its early years, West Allis has developed into a large metropolis with large concentrations of businesses, services, and government activities downtown along Washington Street between State Avenue and Lake Michigan Boulevard.
