Waukesha, Wisconsin is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 26,623 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Waukesha River. Waukesha was first settled in 1838 by white men from Michigan and Minnesota who were looking for land to farm. The name "Waukesha" originates from the Sauk word "wacana," meaning "clear stream." A post office was established in Waukesha on November 1, 1839, and remained open until it was discontinued on December 31, 1907. The first school in Waukeesia opened in 1840. One hundred students attended the school during its first year of operation. By 1845, there were four schools operating in Waukeesia: one public school (grades 1-8), one private school (grades 9-12), and two academies (grades 13-18). In 1846, a new high school was built which became known as “The Prairie School” because it offered instruction for young women also. In 1895 a fire destroyed most of the buildings on Main Street between State and Union Streets in downtown Waukeesia; however local citizens rebuilt it within six months using materials that had been available at hand. The current high school building opened on September 10th 1903 with 126 students enrolled. In 1905 the state legislature passed House Bill No. 980 which provided for education savings goals within each county; this law led to the establishment of Wauskeka Community College District #1 which included all unincorporated areas east of I-94 including parts of Wauskeka village and parts of Monona Heights outside of Milwaukee County In 1957 an order from then Governor John Chafee called for all towns over 25%white population to establish city governments under legislation entitled “An Order to All Towns Over 25% White Population” This order created city councils with powers similar to those enjoyed by towns over 20%. On July 1st 1959 City Council meetings were originally held at the old High School but due to overcrowding moved into the Municipal Building which still stands today On January 15th 1960 voting began for Mayoralty Candidates who would serve four year terms with no term limit The winner was incumbent Abe Beavers who served two terms In 1962 Abe Beavers resigned effective February 17th due to health reasons leaving openings on both Town Council benches That year three candidates ran for mayoralty but only mayor Abe Beavers won reelection having served two terms As Mayor he organized community events such as bingo nights road races carnivals dances etc
In 1863, the United States Congress created the National Guard to provide a reserve force for the country. In 1933, the National Guard was divided into two branches: The Army Reserve and The Navy Reserve. Each branch has its own set of laws and regulations that must be followed when joining or being removed from membership in either branch. Since 1959, all National Guardsmen have been required to swear an oath of office before their unit can enter into military service. By 1840 most Germans had left for other parts of America due to political persecution back home. A Polish family from Racine took up land near present day Wilderville in 1843 and began farming there. They later sold their property to settlers from Michigan who moved there around 1860. In 1861 an Act to Encourage Immigration passed Congress which offered land grants to British subjects who could prove they were not corrupt or immorally inclined and would contribute $5 per acre towards building schools and churches within five years. One such grant recipient was John Houghton who donated land at South Bend along with his son-in-law Isaac Newton Morrissey to establish Waukesha County Park in 1902 as part of a program designed to increase population density throughout rural areas adjacent to Chicago by encouraging people to move into new neighborhoods where land was available at low costs north of downtown Chicago (the same conditions prevailed today). The early days of white settlement were difficult due largelyto lackOf transportation options between settlements eastof Milwaukee River & westof village limits& difficulties finding suitable soil & water sources; many colonists perished during journey hitherward [ map ].
