The Navy has been deployed in support of the United States since 1775. In World War II, the Navy was again mobilized with Operation Neptune’s Spear, which saw the Battle of Midway. The USS Lexington was sunk by a Japanese torpedo and it is believed that this event led to Admiral Chester Nimitz calling for an all-out naval campaign against Japan. The USS Wisconsin arrived at sea on December 12th 1941 and participated in the Battles of Pearl Harbor and Shimonoseki. On December 20th, 1941, shetransferred fuel to CVE-67 during Operations Main Force and Critical Mass off Okinawa. Shelled from Kaga Maru on January 6th 1942 by Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) forces, CVE-67 Fortunately sustained no damage; however her crew were able to take advantage of their depth charges to keep her afloat until help could arrive. On February 3rd 1942 CVG-47 became one of only two destroyers afloat capable of operating submerged when ordered by Commander Task Group 58.2 “ strike at any time” while patrolling between Ie Shima and Kyushu following successful attacks on Pescadero Island Oct 8th 1941 By sink or capture as soon as possible make contact with enemy force then torpedoes them prior to return voyage home[1]. CVG-47 made contact with an enemy cruiser group near Truk Atoll on November 26, 1943 but due to weather conditions failed to sink or engage[2]. CVG 47 patrolled southwest coast of Japan antisubmarine screen from Hagushi Peninsula until Hiroshima attacked without result Jul 1945[3] Operations ended Jan 1946 when recommissioned decommissioned May 1946 at Yokosuka Naval Base

Surrey, Wisconsin is a small town in the heart of the Great Lakes region. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is located about six miles east of Milwaukee on County Road 9. The first inhabitants of Sussex were the Menominee people, who arrived in 1812 from Green Bay. They had started living in what is now Sussex in 1811. The first white person to live in Sussex was Captain John Richardson, who built a cabin on Post Road in 1836. The town began to grow rapidly after it was annexed by Milwaukee in 1854. In 1870, it became part of Racine County and had a population of 1,000 people. In 1907, it became part of Waukesha County and has since had a total population of 3,100 people.

Sussex, Wisconsin is a small town in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 3,752 at the 2000 census. It is located in the Driftless Area of southeastern Wisconsin on the Fox River and near Waukesha County. According to the United States Census Bureau, Sussex has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land. The town was platted in 1875 and named for Mr. and Mrs. John Dutton, residents of nearby West Allis who had donated their land for development. The first post office opened in Sussex on December 5, 1875, and continued to serve until October 1, 1902. The first settler was William Jekyll from Sweden who arrived with his family on February 15, 1876 from Green Bay Rapids, Michigan via the Great Lakes passenger ship "Nashoba". He built a cabin west of present day Main Street where he established a grocery store known as Jekyll's Store which served as an early mercantile center for settlers in this region. By 1880 there were over 20 stores operating in Sussex serving farmers and ranchers with supplies such as flour, hay, cattle and eggs; several churches also operated during that time including Episcopal Zion Church which opened its doors on November 12th 1870 by Revs John Whitehead (a lay preacher) and James Aitken (a Presbyterian minister). The name "Sussex" originated with Captain Augustus Simpson's survey party that passed through this area on September 14-15, 1846 as part of their exploration of what would become Milwaukee County after General David Dixon Purchase became President Ulysses S Grant's Secretary of War on January 6th 1865 Captain Simpson found high ground overlooking both the Fox River valley to the south and east extending northeast into Waukesha County then southwestward into Racine County before turning back upstream again nearpresent day Waukesha Falls just north of present day Middleton along what is now US Highway 54 about seven miles wide where he encampment still stands today called Simpson Campground & Museum
