Surrey, Wisconsin is a small town in the Milwaukee Valley region of eastern Wisconsin. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Waukesha County government.
The first settler in Sussex was one Hiram Houghton in 1836. The town was named for Sussex County on England's Sussex Peninsula. In 1886, Arthur Eldredge platted and founded Racine with its current name. The towns of Albion and Sun Prairie followed in 1908 and 1912, respectively.
In 1922, Sussex incorporated as a village under the name of Sussex Heights after it won a referendum to become an independent municipality. On July 1, 2006, voters approved incorporation as an additional town within Waukesha County by a vote of 3-to-1 margin over opposition from Racine and Albion. As a result of this incorporation, Sussex became the first village in Waukesha County to have its own police force and fire department.
As of the census[10] of 2010, there were 5,895 people living in Surreys unincorporated area including 2villages that are considered part of Surrey: Albion (2%) and Sun Prairie (97%).
