Superior, Wisconsin is a small town in the central part of Wisconsin. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest town in Dane County and the third-smallest municipality in Wisconsin. Superior's name comes from its location on the east side of Green Bay, which once formed a part of what is now eastern Milwaukee County. The community began as a log settlement near Green Bay in 1853. The first post office was established here in 1854. In 1857, Superior became the site of one of the first industrial towns in Wisconsin when it became home to a flour mill run by John Hargrave and his sons. The mill closed in 1907 but later reopened as an auto dealership and remained that way until it went out of business in 1991. During World War II, Superior played an important role as an airfield for both United StatesAAF training flights and for V-E Day operations over Germany. It also served as headquarters for First Air Force during Operation Neptune's Spear and Operation Market Garden; these operations were conducted against German forces across northwestern Europe.

Superior, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 6,468 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Door County and one of the largest towns in Northern Wisconsin. Superior is located on the shores of Lake Superior and is bordered to the north by Manitowoc County and to the east by Sheboygan County. The first settlers in what is now Superior arrived during 1824-25 on a ship called "The Dearborn" from Detroit, Michigan. They were led by Captain John Auld who landed onJanuary 21, 1824 with his party near present-day Superior's mouth on Lake Superior. Captain Auld had been given land grants from Queen Victoria for his part in helping to create British Canada after its independence from France on July 1, 1867. In 1837, Supervisor Lewis Hickey established a post office at what are now known as Hickey Heights in downtown Superior when he became supervisor of Door County with responsibility for all of northwestern Wisconsin including Superior and nearby Scott City (now Racine). In 1840–41 Judge George Ladd granted homesteads west of current day Highway 20 outside present day Milwaukee to Isaac Myers and others who named their township "Myers". Myer Township was organized February 12, 1840 according to a plat filed with the Milwaukee Territorial Court which shows that Abraham Myers donated 2 acres (0 hectares) west of State Street between Capitol Avenue and First Avenue North to form what would become Milwaukee Township; Anthony Meyers donated an additional 4 acres (1 hectare) south of Capitol Avenue towards Eau Claire; John Kapp gifted 3½ acres (1 kilometer²) southwest corner of Saline Street & Third Avenue North together with improvements theretoat Union Depot Site [north side] just south of current day I-94] - thus forming what would become Madison County – this area aroundpresent day Milwaukee being today's Wiscokee River Valley.[2][3] In 1861 Samuel Merrill moved his family from Menomonee Falls where they had been living since 1793[4], settling near present-day Whitefish Bayou northwest of Whitefish Point on 8 miles (13 kilometers)[5]of open water extending into Lake Michigan through Iron Range country then lying within modern Marinette County; their property extended along that bayou until it drained onto Rainy Day Harbor about 12 miles (19 kilometers) due east from their farmstead before continuing southeastward along Iron Range Creek past present-day Brownstown before reaching its confluence with Rainy Day Harbor about 5 miles (8 kilometers) due east from their farmstead at Mud Island Ferry Landing - thence proceeding northeastward along Iron Range Creek past Brownstown before reaching their farmstead at Mud Island Ferry Landing - thence proceeded northeastward along Iron Range Creek past Brownstown before finally arriving at Big Rapids point where they landed December 16, 1793 following an attempt by traders under Second Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Johnson[6][7]and USS Constitution master trader Samuel Merrill[8][9][10]to navigate through ice packen that closed up access to Green Bay harbor during winter months
