Superior, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. Superior was platted in 1854 and named for Samuel Augustus Webb, an American jurist and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin from 1855 to 1861. The post office at Superior was established in 1857 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settlers of Superior were James Horseshoe and his family who arrived on July 24, 1854 from Illinois via the Wabash Riverboat journey. They built a log cabin on the east side of the now known as White River Township where they lived until their death in 1865 when their son George moved them to what is now Superior Township. On February 17, 1860 James Horseshoe's grandson Solomon Horseshoe donated land to build a schoolhouse which would serve the community for generations to come. A second log schoolhouse was built by subscription in 1865 and became known as "the old white school". In 1870 Captain John Prentice erected the first store building on what is now Main Street which became a local landmark for many years because it sold all types of goods including groceries, flour and other food items not available anymore downriver or inland due to prohibition laws passed at that time by President Abraham Lincoln's America First Party hoping to revive America's economy after its financial crisis caused by over-production during the Civil War era). In 1909 Captain Prentice donated an additional 50 acres (20 hectares) which included today’s downtown core along with some further blocks eastward towards Prospect Avenue becoming what is now North Side Park (now called Green Bay Square). This property also included land where two blocks north of Main Street stand today’s State Representatives Building/Supervisor’s Office Building/Libraries Center (renamed “The Capitol District” followingWisconsin General Assembly passage of House Bill No.(H) 5410), located between State Streets & Western Avenue just south of Watertown Square & across from present day Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company headquarters building – one block west of Prospect Avenue across Northern Road from then current site of former Waukesha County Courthouse also located within boundaries Chartered Bank building/former Milwaukee Electric Railway Administration Building). As additional development continued apace Downtown businesses were relocated uptown into buildings such as “the Merchants Inn” later renamed “The Palazzo Hotel” occupied by JCPenney before being torn down following a foreclosure proceeding; Eckerd Drugstore occupied by Kohl's Department Store before conversion into Target; various stores owned & operated by Progress Energy Corporation including those adjacent to original Goodyear tire factory demolished prior thereto subsequent redevelopment completed thereon comprising Goodyear Place Shopping Center subsequently renamed Wells Fargo Bankhead Plaza), etc.). Superior, Wisconsin is a town in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 558 at the 2010 census. It was organized as a settlement on August 15, 1857 when the railroad arrived in the area. The town was named for General James Fenton who led Ulysses S. Grant's army during the American Civil War and donated land to the town. The first post office was established in 1865, and by 1870, there were four stores and two hotels in Superior. A school district was organized in 1872 and a fire department chartered in 1886. In 1912, Superior became an incorporated city. Superior has experienced many changes over its history including being annexed by Minneapolis on February 14th of that year; becoming part of Douglas County on November 3rd of that year; and finally becoming part of Green Bay on January 29th of 1915 when it merged with neighboring townships (in order to make space for Camp Randall Stadium). In recent years, Superior has seen growth with the arrival of new businesses such as Walmart and Applebee's within its borders while also seeing growth within its own government which has included creation of a city hall and an expanded police force
