The Wisconsin National Guard was founded on November 17, 1861, in response to the American Civil War. The first regiment was organized in Green Bay and its name was the 1st Regiment of National Guards. In 1862, the 2nd Regiment of National Guards was also organized in Green Bay and it was renamed the 3rd Regiment of National Guards. The 4th Regiment of National Guards was also organize in Green Bay and its name became the 5th Regiment of National guards. In 1866, the 6th Regiment of National Guards was also organized in Green Bay and it became known as the 7th regiment of national guards. The 8th regiment of national guard (later renamed to 9th) arrived in Milwaukee from Illinois on October 15, 1868. On December 10, 1869, green bay's 8th regiment disbanded due to lack of volunteers for World War I; however its members were re-organized into two new regiments each: 10th and 11th Regiments Of Infantry). On November 16, 1871, both regiments were consolidated into one brigade under command of Col John Custer with Headquarters at Eau Claire; this Brigade later became called 1st Corps militia battalion (Wisconsin Volunteers) post card history
One of the most famous and well-known places in Wisconsin is Suamico. It's a small town in the middle of nowhere, but it has something special. Suamico was founded by Finnish immigrants in 1857. They were looking for a place to retire and raise their families. The town became popular because it had good schools, a library, and a grocery store. It also had some of the first post office boxes in Wisconsin.

In 1775, the first Continental Congress passed a resolution declaring that all male British subjects living in America were “thoroughly armed and disciplined” and were required to provide their own arms. The resolution also called for the arming of all males between the ages of 18 and 44 who could marched in formation with a musket or bayonet. This law was not fully effective until after independence was achieved, as many men did not have enough money or equipment to obtain an arm. However, by 1800, approximately one-third of all American citizens had some form of military training. After independence was achieved, there were increasing calls for troops from various parts of the United States. The Massachusetts militia refused to join militias commanded by New York City because they felt that this violated their rights as Americans under the British Crown. This led to a conflict that eventually ended with Patriots taking control of Boston and forming their own militia known as the National Guard. With increased demand for soldiers during both World Wars I and II, it became increasingly difficult for individual municipalities to raise troops on their own behalf without government funding or assistance. This resulted in mass purchases by federal agencies such as The Department of Defense (DOD) which then sold these items off through surplus stores or auctioned them off to interested buyers nationwide. During World War II alone, DOD purchased over two million rifles, shotguns, pistols and other firearms from dealers around the country including 1,500 armories across America
The National Guard was activated in 1941 as part of the United States War Department's plans for a mobilization of all able-bodied men aged 18 to 45. The first units were quartered at Fort Worth, Texas and Camp Logan, Arizona. The National Guard was officially mobilized on November 8, 1941. The President signed Executive Order 9771 on December 2nd which called for the organization and training of 1 million men within three months. On January 6th 1942, General George Custer was killed in action while serving with the 5th Cavalry Regiment in North Africa and Ulysses S. Grant became Commanding Officer of the Military Division of the Pacific Ocean. The order to mobilize the National Guard increased to 3 million troops by February 15th 1942 when Roosevelt announced that soldiers from all participating nations were being drafted into the Marines and Army programs during World War II. On July 25, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9983 which called for an expansion of military service opportunities for women entering the armed forces as combatant commanders or members of support services such as nurses and chaplains. This order also authorized recruitment bonuses for women who served in majorilia or reserve battalions designated under military law to serve without pay during wartime periods other than menstruation periods (the period between monthly periods). On October 16, 1945 Congress passed legislation expanding eligibility for enlistment into the Armed Forces from those over 21 years old to include those who had been discharged from service or had resigned from uniform within six months after leaving service (this act is known as "The GI Bill"). In 1949 Congress passed a bill increasing enlistment age to 26 years old; this act is known as "The Jimmy Carter Act". In 1967 Congress passed another bill increasing enlistment age to 33 years old; this act is known as "The Vietnam Act". As part of these acts there was also passage of legislation authorizing automatic enrollment into Selective Service System upon graduation from high school or upon release from prison or military duty (the so-called GED test). These laws increased enrollments far beyond what would have been possible without them through compulsory registration with Selective Service System authorities at various points throughout society.
Sometime in the early 1800s, a man named John Suamico settled in what is now Suamico, Wisconsin. At first, he raised families and worked on his farmstead. In 1837, Suamico was part of the town of Appleton when it was organized. He became Mayor in 1840 and continued to serve until his death in 1868. As Mayor, Suamico helped build the city hall and other important structures within the town. Through his efforts, Appleton grew into a significant town in the area. JohnSuamico's legacy lives on today as one of Wisconsin's most notable citizens. His contributions to Appleton and to all of Wisconsin are still remembered today!
