Suamico, Wisconsin is a small town in the town of Appleton, Wisconsin. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine-West Allis-West Oshkosh, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1854 by Swiss immigrants and named for Mount Suamico (8°27'N 86°05'W), located about 12 miles to the east of the present village on Racine Creek. A post office was established in 1865 and renamed Suamico in 1872 after Mrs. Honegger, who had donated land for the Village square. In 1902, a sawmill and other manufacturing businesses were added to the village; however, all operations ceased during World War I because of munitions production shutdowns at Milwaukee’s Waukesha County shipyards. However, some villagers continued to farm until 1947 when they bought an 81 acre parcel of land adjacent to their current square. They began construction on their present schoolhouse that year while also constructing a community center across from it which opened in 1957; this building housed many local organizations including chamber music groups and art shows before being replaced by the current structure in 1998. The original School House still stands as a museum piece today! In 1954 Prairie Schools Inc., predecessor of what is now Appleton Community High School District #2 became operational with students grades 9th through 12th attending high school there beginning September 1st following Spring Break then continuing into summer classes through September 15th each year until those grades completed grade 10th or 11th depending on where they withdrew from school previously having no chance to take winter courses leading up to that point). Suamico is a small town in the town of Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 709 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Suamico was Amos Wright in 1818. He and his family built a log cabin on the present site of Suamico City Hall in 1824. The first post office was established here in 1827. The Town of Suamico was organized November 3, 1857, by an act of the state legislature. The name was chosen because it had been recommended to them by John Pillsbury, one of the founders of Green Bay and its first mayor. At that time there were no towns within Winnebago County and only three villages: Appleton, Waukesha, and Neenah; so Suamico became quite an important community from its very inception. In 1865 John Pillsbury donated land for a public school which served as the nucleus for what would become today's Suamico City School District #4A. In 1889Suamico High School opened as Green Bay’s second high school after Mankato’s Central High School closed due to financial problems.. On January 1st 1906Suamico fire destroyed several businesses on Main Street including Fidelity Store which served as our first post office until 1922 when we moved to our current location next door to US Surveyor General store
