The history of the South Milwaukee Army National Guard is a long and varied one. The unit was founded on December 12, 1916 as the 4th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. It was redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry on January 3rd, 1917. The battalion was mobilized for service in World War I on August 15th and served in France and Belgium before being honorably discharged on October 25th. In World War II, the battalion underwent a significant transformation. They were re-designated as the 6th Battalion (Militia), Wisconsin National Guard on July 10th of 1942. This change came about because at that time only Regular Army units could be called into federal service under state law while the military remained an all-volunteer organization. The battalion served in North Africa and Europe before being sent to China in 1945 as part of United States Expeditionary Forces during World War II. When peace returned to South Milwaukee following World War II, many veteran soldiers who had fought in war decided to retire from the army or convert back to civilian life due to health concerns after wartime experience with large numbers of exposure to chemical warfare agent smoke andradiation. However, there were still a number of active duty soldiers who wanted their military experience continued through peacetime so they were givenSeveral options; include joining reserve forces; serve out their full terms without enlisting again; or form up into companies/ battalions for special operations missions when called upon by commanders during peacetime

The South Milwaukee, Wisconsin Army Garrison was first organized on February 17, 1846. The garrison was initially a small force of only seventy-five men and women. However, over the next few years it grew substantially as soldiers from surrounding villages and towns joined in to form an army. On July 11, 1851, the garrison raised its first battalion of infantry and cavalry. In 1863 it became the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Wisconsin National Guard. On November 15, 1865, the garrison was reactivated as part of the newly created Wisconsin State Militia and served until January 9th, 1889 when it was disbanded due to budget cuts. In 1986-1988 all units within the Garrison were combined under one command with Fort Riley Command Post becoming their headquarters.
South Milwaukee is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 18,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first people to live in South Milwaukee were the Potawatomi and Menominee Indians. In 1836, Congress created the Town of West Allis (now Racine) out of land that had been donated by Governor Nicholas Nickerson to be used for a new county seat. The town was named after General John Custer, who fought in the Indian Wars and died fighting on the Little Big Horn Battlefield near present-day Wauwatosa. In 1854, voters in West Allis approved a charter for what would become South Milwaukee. The town was bounded by Lake Michigan to the north, Greenfield Avenue to the east and south, and Whitefish Bayou to the west. South Milwaukee quickly became one of Wisconsin's most prosperous towns with its own newspaper and night school system. On May 25, 1865 - about one year after founded - South Milwaukee had its first election as a city under Wisconsin statehood laws which granted it representation in statewide government for the first time ever! On November 3rd of that year - only two years later - SouthMilwaukee successfully petitioned for annexation by Racine County! Today's SouthMilwaukee skyline can be seen from miles away as evidence of how well-made this small town has been over time - despite challenges like zoning changes that have taken place throughout its history! Despite these setbacks however, SouthMilwaukee continues to thrive both economically and politically due largely to its citizens' passion for their community!

South Milwaukee is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River near Green Bay. The population was 21,811 at the 2000 census. South Milwaukee was founded in 1854 and became a city in 1907. The current mayor is Leah Vukmir. The area that now makes up South Milwaukee was first settled by Ojibwe people over time and includes present-day neighborhoods of Menomonee Falls, Wood Dale, Silver Lake, and Wauwatosa. The first European to arrive in this area was Nicholas von Königsberg who landed on the Fox River on July 12, 1634 as part of his journey from Prague to what is now Detroit after being invited by Chief Frenchy (Norman) Chippewa to explore this new land. Von Königsberg built a trading post at Menomonee Falls and soon started selling goods he had acquired along his travels through Europe to local Native Americans including the Potawatomi nation under their leader Micoque. By 1753 most of present day South Milwaukee had been organized with an artificial waterway called the Nohlungenwasser Canal connecting the Menomonee River west of downtown with Lake Superior just south of where it impounded by Fort Snelling today). In 1854, John Dickey purchased 4 acres (16 hectares) east of town from George Hutton for $1 per acre ($25 per km²). This location would eventually become home to Dickey's fertilizer plant and other industrial plants until 1978 when it closed due to health concerns about lead contamination among workers there which persists to this day in adjacent Case Western Reserve University research laboratories’s legacy environmental legacy! In 1907 City Manager Julius Wisniewski appointed Mayor James Gurney as head bureaus comprising all city services with powers over both public Works departments including street cleaning and parks maintenance; fire protection; planning; zoning; building permits; concierge service; library holdings/use restrictions etc... He also created Department Headquarters within City Hall which housed all department heads plus administrative offices for each bureau within city government while providing storagerooms/laboratories for each bureau concerned as well as office space for 3 Municipal Courts located inside 2 blocks north of Third Street between State & High Streets - one courthouse reserved exclusively for Municipal Court use only - modern annexes were constructed across State Street between High Street & Third Street NW during 1950s-1960s following recommendations from then Board Member Melvin Jorgensen who envisioned such facilities but never sawuled construction because “City Hall could not support additional staff” . . . On December 20th 1937 Mayor Gurney announced plans to build a new Police Station on Waterfront Drive adjoining Powers Park that would serve as temporary headquarters until new permanent headquarters could be built at 401 E Second St when completed later that year responsible for Services rendered by patrol cars, traffic control devices including red lights/hand signals/blowing horns vehicles operated without proper authority or registration etc... It should be noted that no money ever went into making this project happen despite numerous requests made throughoutMayor Gurney's term resulting in countless wasted taxpayer dollars! Withstandings against waves of cheap labor drawn primarily from Eastern Europe led steel manufacturer United States Steel Corporation (USSC) beginning production at its Point A Shale Mine next door aka "the place where rivers run dry") moving heavy equipment used in mining operations across Racine County outside nearby Kenosha County starting up around 1951 quickly caused increasing conflict between management company USSC locals working long hours without overtime pay vs operators foreign born residents employed here illegally without right to work either leading ultimatelyto massive Acts Of Violence spilling over into neighboring counties often leaving communities destroyed or entire villages emptied out totally unable ever again To rebuild these once thriving communities we mustfirst understand why so much happened here&why those events continue today
In 1836, a group of farmers in South Milwaukee formed the Town of South Milwaukee to own and operate a town square. The first meeting was held on July 4th. The original townsquare is still in use today and is located at the corner of Washington and Water Streets.
