Sheboygan, Wisconsin is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. Located on the east side of the river near Green Bay and Racine, it is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Area. The name Sheboygan originated from one of the many small villages along the River Raisin. The first settler in Sheboygan was John Gedney in 1838. In 1857, James Jefry started a sawmill in Sheboygan which became an important local industry. By 1860, there were over twenty mills in Sheboygan and its surrounding areas. In 1865, she converted to Christianity and named her church Holy Name of Jesus Christ Parish after Saint Nicholas of Tolentino (1828-1900). This caused some controversy since Saint Nicholas was also an Apostle to Russia and Ukraine. In 1870, a post office called Sheboygan was established with a population of only seventy-one people; however, by 1875 it had grown to 1,200 residents due to increased trade with neighboring towns along the Raisin River. Two years later another post office called Hegoda opened up just north of Sheboygan and quickly became popular due to its location next to White Earth Lake where residents could ice their fish during winter months. During World War II most businesses closed because they were rationed but some still managed to function thanks to their employees who volunteered for military service or worked odd jobs during wartime shortages such as repairing aircraft parts or working at munitions factories Nearby schools also closed down for lack of students but soon reopened when war ended; these include: Central High School (opened 1927), Washburn Heights Cemetery (opened 1923), South Side Elementary School (opened 1928), North Side Elementary School (opened 1929), Dexter Avenue Elementary School (opened 1932) and now Wexford Middle School which is open 7th through 12th grades alongside other public schools including: Fentonridge Intermediate/High School (opened 1954), Proctor Middle Schools - high school located just south of town off Highway 169 on Proctor Road across from Nowy Dwórka winery) All these schools are now part of Wexford Consolidated Learning District Sheboygan's history can be traced back all the way back to Mayflower settlers Reverend Robert Houghton and Captain Nathaniel Westervelt who landed on what would become known as "the Raisin" on July 24th 1636 while seeking passage home from England

Sheboygan's name comes from two words: sheeboag or "shingle" and bog or "hollow". The first settlers were Germans who arrived in 1836. They dug a logging road through the thick forest to get to their new land. The first post office was established in 1847 and was known as Sheboygan Falls. The first school was built in 1872 by Mrs. Julia Ann Hittman and taught mathematics, reading, science, history, spelling and French. In 1907 it merged with Oshkosh to form Milwaukee County.
Sheboygan was founded in 1851 by John Sheboygan and his family. The town was named for the Sheboygan River, which the Sheboysgans survey and map in 1848. The first post office opened in 1850. In 1865, the sheboygan UW School of Medicine was founded in the town.
