In support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the Sheboygan Army National Guard was mobilized on Dec. 2, 2001 and arrived in Afghanistan on Jan. 6, 2002. The unit served as part of the 9th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division and took part in attacks against terrorist targets throughout Afghanistan. In April 2002, the brigade deployed to Iraq where it served as a component of Task Force southern Watch and took part in combat operations throughout 2003-2004.
Sheboygan is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 8,821 at the 2010 census. Sheboygan is located on the Fox River and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Sheboygan County were the Menominee Indians, who may have come from upper Michigan or Ontario. One theory holds that they crossed over into Wisconsin via the Great Lakes region and migrated downriver before settling in present-day Sheboygan County. They probably hunted and fished in present-day Manitowoc County and York County before moving southward to settle near Kinnickinnic Lake in 1836. The Potawatomi Indian tribe had a village on the north side of Kinnickinnic Lake when white men first arrived, but it was destroyed by a fire about 1836 which also destroyed many other villages along the Fox River Valley around Kinnickinnic Lake. The first European settlers of this area were Dutch fur traders, who began arriving during Father Time's second winter at Point Pelee in 1642–43 for trade with Native Americans living along both banks of the river (now called Superior). Fur trading operations grew more intensive during Father Time's third winter (1644–46) as he prepared for his journey across North America known as "the great migration". In early December 1644, Anthony de la Salle discovered land on Illinois beach near modern-day Manitowoc Rapids while sailing search behalf of France under command of Captain Jacques Marquette; he named this new land La Salle's Land after him and reported his discovery to French Governor Louis Joliet on December 14th, 1644. In anticipation of possible French occupation, Dutch colonists built Fort De Varenne on an island near modern day Sheboygan Falls just inside today's city limits on January 12th, 1645; however, no permanent European settlement resulted from this initial foray into what is now Sheboygan County until later that year when Nicholas Block founded blocksville on Chippewa Bayou east of present-day West Allis where he soon erected a small wooden fortifications including a stockade which served as their centerpoint against neighboring British settlements further upriver known as Marinette Island (later Montreal). In 1763 George Rogers Clark founded Rogers Station off current-day Nicolet Road within today's city limits after discovering valuable resources such as coal and iron ore lying beneath Rouge River valley near modern day Green Bay; these discoveries led to Canada becoming an American nation two years later when Clark marked Canadian soil with his flag following victory over Britain at Saratoga Field northwest of Detroit Lakes on October 13th,. Some believe that Sheboygan may have been one among several crossings points used by early American pioneers looking for new opportunities westward during those earliest days of our country! A large influx of Czech immigrants began flowing into northern Wisconsin beginning in 1854 when railroads were extensions reaching Chicago through Racine and Kankakee Counties; these newcomers brought their cultural practices with them which strongly influenced subsequent generations native to Wisconsin Recall how many times we've seen phrases like "Wisconsin didn't become United States until after they [Czechs] got here" or some variation thereof? It would appear that there has been misinformation propagated throughout history by those who are not familiar with our state’s rich past! The largest waveimmigrant group emanating from Bohemia was Slovakians who managed to reach numbers much higher than any other ethnicity due largely to economic opportunities offered by improved transportation methods available once Czechoslovakia attained independence from Austria following World War I on November 15th 1921! Many Brno natives took up work alongside their Slovakian brethren upon their return home whence significant portionsofBrno’s eastern neighborhoods retain their earliest Slovak/Bohemian character even unto this day! Sheboygan, Wisconsin is a small town located in the northwestern corner of the United States. The population was 2,924 at the 2010 census. It has been a part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area since its incorporation in 1836. The first settler in Sheboygan was Nicholas Larkin, who arrived on July 8, 1836, and named his new home "New Beginnings." In 1839, John Fritchett moved to Sheboygan from Waukesha County and opened a general store. A post office was established at Sheboysgrove in 1841. By 1860, there were only six residents living in Sheboygan. In 1861, Fritchett donated land to build a school for future settlers. The first building was completed in 1863 and was named after him. The town's name changed to Sheboygan in 1865 when it became a city under Wisconsin state law. In 1866-1867, two sawmills were built near the town center and soon began producing lumber for local homes and businesses. In 1870-1871, work began on the first bridge over the Menomonee River which crossed into Milwaukee at that time; this bridge still stands today as one of downtown's most iconic landmarks. By 1880, shelled corn had become an important crop in eastern Wisconsin and shipments continued to arrive by train from Decatur until 1906 when rail service ended due to construction projects along Interstate 94 north of Milwaukee
