The River Falls Police Department has been providing law enforcement service to the community since 1887. The department is made up of a sworn officer corps, a support staff, and civilians who work in various capacities. The department's mission is to protect the citizens of River Falls and its surrounding communities and provide first responder services when needed. One of the department's most popular gifts is a police cruiser. This gift was given to the department in 1922 by Mayor John Fritchey. The gift was purchased from J.C. Whitney & Sons on State Street in Milwaukee. In 1984, the City Council approved the purchase of a new police car for use within the city limits. The car was ordered from Ford Motor Company and delivered to River Falls on October 15th, 1984. It has been used as both a law enforcement vehicle and for promotional events throughout its career with the department. On November 2nd, 2002, officers from neighboring towns Lawton and Newton were called to help with an accident at County Road N-1 near mile marker 548A in River Falls that had occurred earlier that morning while they were on their way to patrol another town nearby. Officers arrived on scene finding several people injured including one person who had undergone surgery after being hit by an automobile driven by defendant Timothy Wirths III (KLFY News 8). Wirths was arrested after his vehicle failed a sobriety test and he admitted driving while under influence of drugs or alcohol according to court records (WSDM 9/2/2002). Wirths was sentenced to eight years probation but because of his prior record he served only four months before being released (WSDM 9/9/2002). After this incident two Spearman Brothers donation Truckloads of toys were donated which will be put into use within minutes each at different locations throughout our community during toy drive week (River Falls Police Dept Facebook page post). One truckload went towards section 25 where there are many kids without family members here due to divorce or other issues; another truckload will go towards Section 33 which provides employment opportunities for young adults living in poverty; still another truckload will go towardsSection 36 which provides funding for Parks & Recreation programs (Facebook post) It should be noted that this particular year’s toy drive falls on National toy day so all donations received through November 10th will count! In total we are expected to collect over 100 items(this number could change greatly depending on donations received over Thanksgiving weekend!)

River Falls is a small town located in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin area. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. Situated on the Mississippi River, it is known for its waterslides, bridges and hiking trails. The first inhabitants of what is now River Falls were Native Americans. In 1834, Augustus Deane purchased land here from the Kickapoo tribe and started to build a sawmill and millrace. By 1860, his son Augustus Jr. had also built a church and school in River Falls. The town name originated with John Fetterman, who named it after his brother-in-law's home village in Scotland - waterfall meant "Fettermans' farm." In 1862, an act of Congress designated the river as the border between Iowa and Wisconsin; this caused many people to move to River Falls during that time period because of its proximity to Prairie du Chien (now Waukesha). In 1876, Albion Smith opened a gristmill here which became one of the largest mills in Wisconsin. It continued operation until 1975 when it was closed due to competition from larger mills in southern Wisconsin. After Albion Smith's death, his son William took over operations at the mill until 1978 when it was sold to United States Steel Corporation for $8 million USD. The mill reopened in 1984 as part of a nationwide redevelopment project that included refurbishing all 13 mills operated by United States Steel Corporation before their closure in 2002*. After being closed for nearly 25 years*, United States Steel Corporation's Mill 14 reopened on April 12th 2006 after being completely renovated from top to bottom using some $200 million dollars*Huge job! Over time, River Falls continued to grow and become an important community withinWisconsin society.
The area now known as River Falls was first settled by the Potawatomi Indians in the late 18th century. The town of River Falls was founded in 1800, and was named for the falls that ran through it. In 1854, the village of River Falls became a city, and its population grew to over 5,000 people by 1860. The city went bankrupt in 1873, and merged with the nearby town of Galesburg to form a new city called Milwaukee. The river that runs through River Falls served as the primary transportation artery between the two cities until they were amalgamated into one municipality in 1924.
