River Falls is a small town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,100 at the 2010 census. It falls within the Fox River watershed. The community lies on the south side of the Fox River and is bordered by Sheboygan to the east, Waukesha to the north, Menomonee Falls to the northwest, and Racine to the south. The name "River Falls" likely comes from two French words meaning "the falls," which are located just east of town on Highway 35W. The first settlers in what is now River Falls were fishermen who traded with other lakes and rivers in Canada for fish. In 1848 they erected a fortification called Fort Hennepin in order to protect themselves from attack by Dakota Sioux while they pursued their warpath against whites. A year later they decided that a better place for their settlement was on the southern bank of the Fox River where it empties into Lake Michigan just north of Milwaukee. They named their new town after Hennepin (whose remains can be seen today near downtown). The mills that became important in early river towns such as riverFalls were built by men who owned or leased land along both sides of the Fox River between Sheboygan and Waukesha counties according to historian Edward Gershwin's book "Foxfire: A History of American Manufacturing." Many men died working these mills during hard times during prohibition period because no one could get alcohol across state lines then. After repeal many people returned to mill work but some developed real estate interests around these mills until about 1950 when those activities too came to an end due mostly to changes in technology and more efficient methods of production at other companies.. Mill workers had strong unions which helped keep them employed through tough times including World War II when many men served abroad; however mill closures starting up again after that conflict caused many man retire rather than return back into union activism which eventually led to layoffs again beginning about 1990/1991 as we have today thanks largely this century's advances in automated production techniques! In terms of architecture, some notable buildings built before 1951 include: First Lutheran Church (1868), North Bridge Block (1912-13), Sheboygan State Bank Building (1927),Sheboygan Trust Company Building (1929), Masonic Temple No 3 (1953-54) - all completed prior to prohibition; also Riverside Baptist Church - constructed 1865-66, First Presbyterian Church - 1881-82; Second Presbyterian Church building 1908 Addison Avenue - also completed prior to prohibition; Third PresbyterianChurch 1912 Monroe Street - also completed prior to prohibition; Fourth PresbyterianChurch 1955-56 Old Main Street addition added following prohibition referendum vote.; Fifth PresbyterianChurch 1961 South Side Road addition added following prohibition referendum vote.; Sixth PresbyterianChurch 1967 Elm Grove Road addition added following prohibition referendum vote.; Seventh PresbyterianChurch 1973 incorporation into city Limits Act effective date All except Riverside Baptist Church still standing miles apart from each other although all share common landmark building(s) (); One exception being Riverside Baptist Church has been razed multiple times but still stands close together

River Falls, Wisconsin is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,549 at the 2010 census. River Falls is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become River Falls was Andrew Jenson in 1836. He built a cabin on the now-defunct Carrington Creek and named it for his home village of Carrington near Glasgow, Scotland. A year later, he and his wife received land from the federal government for $5 per acre and started to cultivate crops there. By 1840, they had erected a log schoolhouse and store on Main Street (now Water Street). They also began to fish the river for Trout Lake which became their main source of income. In 1844 they built a sawmill along Waupun Avenue (now Menomonee Avenue) where they processed logs into lumber until it replaced an earlier mill that had been destroyed by fire. In 1846, John Laughlin arrived in River Falls from Green Bay with his family after moving from Michigan via Ellis Island during the Mexican American War over fears that he might be drafted into service as part of Ulysses S. Grant's army based in Mexico City if he returned home to America. He founded Laughlin Foundry & Steel Company with his brother-in-law David Borenstein and soon began producing iron products such as cannons and railroads track hereabouts as well as other goods needed by settlers including flour for baking bread and cheese; oil lamps; candles; boots; hatschet knives; horseshoes; rebarwire fencing wire “…made necessary by Indian hostilities” . In 1862 Laughlin married Maria Amalia Weber who was then living in Manitowoc County but brought her parents with her when she moved to River Falls. Thereafter both families lived permanently in River Falls untilMaria Amalia Weber's death at age 95 years old on January 16th, 1984 in Racine County aged 86 years ." The town of River Falls was platted on May 14th, 1851 by James Hickey who called it "Fallsburg". The name may have come from nearby falls or "ravines" running through the area including Carrington Creek which were frequented by early settlers for water supply purposes although no evidence exists to support either claim specifically. According to local legend two pioneers - Captains Isaac Hullock and Samuel Morse - decided not to continue upriver because there wasn't enough water available upstream while others situated downstream around present day West Allis decided to follow their leader without waiting for higher water levels thereby creating what would become known as "the Upper Town". Captain Hullock's wagon train consisting mainly of men under his command stopped auxilliary miles below present day Rosholt just before reachingpresent day Highwood whereupon Captain Morse took over leadership duties leading them all back upstream against unfavorable currents successfully completing their journey safely arriving at what is now Milwaukee on September 25th 1792.

"In February 1851 James Hickey organized a group of ten men who donated one acre each towards founding a town site next door to Spring Road — this being about current site where present day Rivers Landing resides."

The first white settlers in what is now River Falls, Wisconsin arrived in 1847. The town was founded by Levi Coffin and his brother Solomon Coffin. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1865, the town was renamed to honor General Ulysses S. Grant, who had fought in the American Civil War. River Falls became a City of Milwaukee on January 1, 1893.
