Racine is a town in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,826 at the 2010 census. Racine is the county seat of Green County and the second-largest city in Green County after Milwaukee. It is also the largest city in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee. The Racine metropolitan area has a population of 11,521 as of 2018. The first Europeans to sight what is now Racine were French traders who landed on Lake Michigan in 1781 and charted its course to find new trading opportunities. They named it "Racine" for Jean-Baptiste Rochefort, captain of one of their ships that made this discovery. In 1836, racines were platted as township townships within Green County; the name was changed to Racine in 1902 when it became a city. In 1867, Racine became part of the newly formed state of Wisconsin and began receiving federal funding for infrastructure projects such as road construction and public buildings like schools and hospitals. This support continued until 1959 when all but two pieces ofWisconsin's public infrastructure were transferred from local government control to the state government under then-Govsue John F Kennedy and Adlai Stevenson II respectively. Numerous corporations had invested money in land near where Racine would be built over previous decades – most notably Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., which developed Midwestern Cities Corporation (MCC) which built many landmark buildings throughout downtown Racine including Sears Tower (now known as the Trump Tower). One reason MCC succeeded so well was because they managed to keep prices low while building some very large structures such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts' corporate headquarters;[1] however other factors include good management by founder Ted Sorensen[2][3] and an open mind towards redevelopment by Mayor Rudy Wiegand (who later served as governor)[4]. A few years ago I took my kids out shopping at Sears on State Street just east off I-94 near downtown; it’s NOW called “KohlbergKravisRoberts”! . At 1/3rd its original cost but still stunning!

Racine was founded in 1847 by Joseph Racine and his sons, Jacob and Nicholas. The town was named for the Wisconsin River, which ran through it. The Racines came from a small village in northeastern France. In 1851, they moved to Racine and started a whiskey distillery. They also built a large mill that still operates today. In 1917, the family sold the distillery to American Distillers Corporation (ADC). ADC operated it until 1959 when it merged with United States Steel to form United States Steel and Iron Corporation (USTIC). USTIC had two main products: steel and ammunition. It produced over 1 million tons of steel between 1918 and 1960. Additionally, USTIC built a number of important civic structures including the Racine County Courthouse and School District Building, as well as many other public buildings in Racine-including three hospitals-and throughout Wisconsin. In 1955, ADC acquired United States Shipping Company (USSHC) which was then the largest shipping company in Wisconsin. USSHC became part of ADC after its merger with United States Steel. At its peak during World War II, USTIC employed over 3600 people at its shipyards in Racine and Milwaukee; these yardsproduced more than one billion pounds of munitions alone! In 1959, USTIC merged with Armoury Incorporated to become Armoury Incorporated & USTIC (later renamed Danforth Armoury Co.). This merger allowed for both companies to gain experience in manufacturing firearms while sharing ownership of their plants across America. This move gave armoury an advantage over foreign competitors who did not have this experience or access to American technology like armaments production facilities - leading to increased profits for all involved! Danforth Armoury Co., later renamed Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (SWCo), played an important role in developing America's first handgun - the Colt 1911 pistol - starting with their creation of the Model 1905 revolver back in 1899! With continued success following World War II into the early 1970s, Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation truly became one of America's "big four" gunmakers - responsible for producing most pistols manufactured within each state except Alaska!
