Since the early days of aviation, the United States Air Force has been a flagship organization in American society. From its humble beginnings as an Edwards Air Force Base fighter squadron in World War I to its current stature as one of the most powerful and influential militaries in the world, the USAF has played a pivotal role in American culture and history. The origins of the USAF can be traced back to 1917 when America's first independent air force was created at Edwards Air Force Base. The 1st Aero Squadron RAF was formed with American pilots to provide air cover for Allied forces during World War I. The unit flew two aircraft: a P-51 Mustang and an F4U Corsair. In 1919, after America entered World War II, the 1st Aero Squadron became part of Eighth Air Force under General Curtis LeMay. During World War II, Eighth AF served as Europe's largestAAF command responsible for all Allied Bomber Operations against Nazi Germany. This included more than 50 bombing raids on targets such as Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Cologne and other major industrial cities. In addition to bomber operations, EighthAF also engaged in ground combat against German forces across seven different campaigns including Operation Market Garden (the Battle of Arnhem), Operation Crossbow (the Battle of France) and Operation Varsity (the Invasion of Sicily). Despite suffering heavy losses during these campaigns, EighthAF continued to serve with distinction throughout the war until it was disbanded in 1945. In 1949 Congress established Headquarters USAF which would oversee all aspects related to USAAF operations worldwide under Commander-in-Chief US Army Air Forces (CINAC). CINAC constituted HQ USAF as a single entity by merging Headquarters Third AF (#8) at Randolph AFB TX with Headquarters Ninth AF (#2) at Wright-Patterson AFB OH which had been activated on 14 Nov 1944 from Tactical Flying Training School #1 at Dayton Airport OH; both units being subordinate to First AFHQ Directive Directorate #5]. Tenth AFHQHQ was activated on 15 Dec 1944 from Hawaii HQ detachment #2 which had been activated on 8 Sep 1943 from Hawaiian Departmental Depot #3]. At this time HQUSAF consisted Of: On 7 Jun 1946 HQ USAF reorganized into Major Commands: Air Command - responsibility for all military activity within Aerospace Division headed by Chiefof Staff Air support - responsibility for providing combat airlift interdicting enemy supply lines over enemy territory airman Personnel - manning all operational airports and flying training schools Aircraft Maintenance Command - responsible for maintaining strategic bombers/ Fighter Units while they are undergoing overhaul or modernization Air Combat Command - responsible for conducting aerial warfare exercises/training activities worldwide %*%#'s!%.+!*)&#$%^&%$!@#*!!#$+&&(&(&((),()*)))$!%,($!,()*+,/$@<=>?>=`??`???>=(`???>)`.+!/((-+-,/+,-.,-)#0+)$!),/>(*=~())?,)+=-.-./~"

The Racine Air Force Station was an AmericanAAF facilities located in Racine, Wisconsin. It served as the primary airfield for the IX Bomber Command during World War II. The AF station was also home to a number of bombers used in Operation Overlord, including the Boeing B-29 Superfortress.
Racine, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Racine County. The population was 27,781 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Elyria metropolitan area. The Racine River forms most of the city's eastern border and runs through its center. Other nearby rivers include the Menomonee and Oneida Rivers to the south and east, respectively; as well as Lake Michigan to the north and west. The city's location on one of three main routes between Chicago, Milwaukee, and St Paul makes it a vital transportation hub for northwestern Wisconsin farmers and manufacturing workers who travel southwest to those cities or northwest to Minneapolis-St Paul. The riverfront neighborhoods are home to some of Racine's oldest buildings dating back to 1847: The Rheingold Brewery Building, built in 1851; John Pritzker House (now a museum), built in 1893; Masonic Temple (1895), now known as First United Methodist Church; Third Ward Business District (1902), now known as Waterman Place Historic District; Loews Hotel (1920s), now known as City Hall Tower;[2]and Sears Tower (1970). In recent years, much new development has taken place along Waukesha Avenue near downtown Racine including FirstMerit Bank Parkade redevelopment project which will add 5 million sq ft (460,000 m2) of office space with plans for further development by Kendall Yards LLC,[3] an Urban Land Institute study that found that for every 1% increase in office development across all American cities over a five-year period from 2011-2015, Racine would see an additional $5 million economic impact.[4][5] Racine was founded by James Hutton on April 25th 1837 when he established his sawmill just upstream from present day Race Street Bridge across Green Bay on land bought from Chief Ligonier[6]. A year later he erected a gristmill next door on what is today Elm Street[7]. In 1840 Hutton married Anna Maria Schuller[8], sister of logging pioneer George Schuller[9]; they had six children: Five sons – James Hutton Jr., John Fenton Hutton II, Samuel Eliot Hutton III, Alfred Everett Hutton IV(AEHton V), Emma Mayhew Hutton(EMHton VI).[10][11] Anna Maria died in 1868 aged 50 after giving birth to their only child Emmett Louis(ELFton VII). After her death James Sr.(JHutton VIII) remarried Edith Kapp(EAKapp IX).[12][13],[14][15][16] Their second wife was Mary Jane Weckeroth who died young without children also.[17][18] They divorced again in 1902 but continued living together until their deaths both in 1978 aged 86 years old.[19],[20]). James Sr.(JHitton VIII) became guardian ad litem personality representative for his stepchildren Emmett Louis(ELFton VII)[21], James Matson Jr.(JMatson VIII)[22]) while Edith Kapp went into receivership receivership according to state law due principally to debts she incurred regarding her first marriage notwithstanding special efforts by her son JMatson VIII not only to clear his mother’s name but also purchase her freedom from debtors’ imprisonment during receivership proceedings which followed upon sale of assets theretofore exempt under state law until such time as her son could assume control over them fully consistent with section 7653g)(1)(C)Wisconsin Statutes 1993 . She continued living rent free at 107 Eglinton Ave NW until late 1978 when she moved out because she could no longer manage expenses resulting from advanced age
