The first coffeehouses in Plover were owned and operated by the Friends of the Rural Bridge. The Friends gathered early morning coffee from the farmers on the bridge to sell at their own storefronts. Roasts and methods varied, but all coffee was roasted fresh. In 1876, a group of men from Plover founded The Coffee House. This business served as a meeting place for local traders and entrepreneurs who would meet to discuss trade deals or buy goods from local farmers. As time passed, more businesses cropped up in town, each selling their own unique blend of roasts and methods. By 1907, there were six different coffee shops in town with over 100 customers per day!
Plover is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Wausau Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first known permanent settlement in what is now Plover was made by David and Jonathan Walker on May 8, 1836. They built a cabin on bluffs overlooking the mouth of the White River. A post office called Pomeroy was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. On December 12, 1852, a group of twenty-eight pioneers who had been journeying from Watertown founded Plover on land east of Green Bay along the White River. The name was chosen to honored General John Floyd and his brother-in-law Major James Krieger for their support of early settler efforts in western Wisconsin. The town site consisted of only two buildings: a storehouse and a log cabin used as a schoolhouse and jail. In 1860, plows were brought into use for agriculture; however, no one lived permanently in Plover until after World War II when refugees from Germany began arriving here during that decade’s dramatic social changes. In 1902 the railroad arrived; soon plowing became an important tool for farmers as it allowed them to plant crops more efficiently with less time spent tending to fields which would later be subject to damage by Hail or Frost weather conditions caused by lake levels or glaciers melting during wintertime By 1940 there were 640 residents living within its boundaries while 2 miles (3 kilometers) outside it there were 550 farms averaging 50 acres (20 hectares). On July 1st 1945 local officials announced plans to build an airfield adjacent to town so that passengers could get rides into Green Bay Airport - this announcement created excitement among locals who had long seen their community as an agricultural center serving neighboring townships with access to Bryan Air Force Base located about 10 miles (16 kilometers) away By 1957 there were 907 residents within its boundaries while 2 miles (3 kilometers) outside it there were 714 farms averaging 100 acres (40 hectares). However due to Increasing air traffic at Green Bay Airport overpopulation began causing problems such as overcrowding at schools and businesses leading up to 1970 when the airport closed completely following several accidents involving passenger jets . Today remnants of once vibrant community remain with people still residing within close proximityof each other despite increased costs associated with increased commuting distance
