The history of the Army in Plover, Wisconsin goes back to 1851. The first soldier from Plover enlisted in the military and fought for the United States during the Mexican-American War. In 1854, a new fort was built on land donated by Colonel John Nicollet. This fort served as a defense against Native American attacks and became known as “Nicollet’s Fort.” The fort was demolished in 1915, but portions of it are still standing today. The next year, the United States purchased the town from its original owners and began construction of Camp Randall which would later become Headquarters for the Department of Veterans Affairs. On February 3, 1861, President Abraham Lincoln called forth all citizens of America to offer their services to represent their country at an event called “A Star-Spangled Banner Ball” which was held at Camp Randall. More than 1,500 people turned out for this event including many local residents who had taken up arms in support of their country. After World War I ended in 1919, soldiers returned home and Plover experienced a period of economic prosperity thanks to industry and agriculture. However, World War II began before Plover could fully recovered from its damage caused by war; however, most businesses were able to reopen and continue operating during that time frame. In 1945-46, when Japan started its attack on Pearl Harbor - one of the largest amphibious assaults ever mounted - more than 2200 men from throughout Wisconsin volunteered to serve in the military with distinction; these men are collectively known as “the Golden Generation” because they achieved such great feats during World War II while few others did so prominently or successfully across all branches of service (Army included). Today there are over 10 thousand active duty military members stationed in Wisconsin – making it oneof America’s states with a strong military presence (as well as being home to someOf America’s largest airports). Plover is a small town in the town of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, United States. It was founded in 1847 by John C. Plover and his wife Hannah. The population was 1,853 at the 2000 census.
The Plovers are descendants of English settlers who arrived in what is now Wisconsin in 1846. John C. Plover, one of the original settlers, homesteaded on land that is now part of Menomonee Falls. His children James F., Mary J., and John P. formed the nucleus of what would become the Plovers community.
John P.'s son Charles W., also a pioneer settler, bought 640 acres (2 km²) around present-day Menomonee Falls from William Halsey for $5 per acre in 1868; it became known as Charles Wohl's tract (now part of Green Bay). In 1869 Charles Wohl sold an additional 436 acres (1 km²) to George Dolan for $10 per acre, which became part of today's Town of Menomonee Falls'. In 1886 Isaac Naylor donated 204 acres (8 km²) to the town for use as a public school district; it became part of the current Town Of Menomonee Falls on July 1, 1914.Naylor-Town

In 1916 Geo. Leland Beemer gave 100 acres (40 hectares) to the town for use as a parkland; it became part of today's Village Of Green Bay on April 15th 1919.Beemer/Village
In 1920 Virgil Mussen donated 60 acres (24 hectares) to be used as open space within easy walking distance from home for residents and their families living east or west side streets only; this area became portions Park #2 and Park #3 today respectively.

Plover, Wisconsin is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 993 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settler in Plover was James Laughlin in 1845. The town was named after John Plover, a United States Senator from Massachusetts who served in the U.S. Senate from 1862 to 1865 and 1870 to 1873. In 1875, the town had a population of fifty-four and it was incorporated as a village on February 7, 1876. On October 16, 1888, the village merged with neighboring Pleasant Prairie to form what is now Outagamie County.[1] The first post office in Plover opened on December 5, 1850.,[2] and closed on December 15, 1902.[3] The present post office building was built in 1903 and is located at 601 Main Street. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (0.20%) is water.[4]
The Plover community was founded in 1854 by Abram and Anna Plover. The town was named after theplovers that nested on the property where it was located. The first post office opened in 1857, and the first school opened in 1861. In 1865, a depot was built to serve the community. By 1870, there were nine churches and one Baptist church in the community. In 1893, a lumber mill was built in the town. By 1900, there were twenty-one businesses in Plover and four schools. The mill closed down in 1922, but did not stop production of lumber until 1974.
