Pleasant Prairie is a town in the central part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is bordered by the towns of Menomonee Falls and Racine on the east, Brookfield on the south, and Waukesha County on the west. The population was 5,719 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Pleasant Prairie were Norwalkers who arrived in 1836. They were followed by others from New England, Pennsylvania, and other parts of North America over time. The first school was built in 1846-47 and named after Mrs. Julia Prentice (1812-1889), an early settler and teacher in that area. In 1862, a post office was established at Pleasant Prairie with Aylwin Henniker as its first mail carrier; it remained open until 1971 when it became part of Menomonee Falls. In 1892, Pleasant Prairie incorporated as a village; it did not become a town until 2000 when it changed its name to honor John Dorman (1871-1948), its mayor for many years beginning in 1948. Dorman also donated land to make room for a public library which opened in 1966; today's library is one of four located within town limits (the others beingElementary School District No 1 - Grafton Drive West - Brookfield Campus; Middle School District No 2 - Willard Road East - Menomonee Falls Campus) . Pleasant Prairie is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 830 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 by John and Rebecca Hoadly. Pleasant Prairie is located on the western edge of Racine County and its boundaries are largely defined by the Fox River. It is bordered to the south by the city of Kenosha, to the west by Walworth County, and to the north by Iron City. The first settlers arrived in what is now Pleasant Prairie in 1854, when John Hoadly and his wife Rebecca set out from Milwaukee with their three children for a new life in this rolling country. They named their land "Pleasant Prairie" after one of their friends, who had settled near Clear Lake about two miles away. The Hoadly family increased its holdings over time and eventually built a home here that still stands today. In 1871, they donated land adjacent to their home for a public square which became known as "Hoadley Park". Pleasant Prairie quickly became an important community because it was located on valuable agricultural ground - including land necessary for growing food for local consumption as well as raw materials used in manufacturing goods sold throughout Racine County. This helped make Pleasant Prairie one of Racine County's most prosperous towns during its early years; business owners like James Ahern managed to keep up with advances made elsewhere in America thanks to good transportation connections and easy access to markets downtown. The late 19th century also saw growth within Pleasant Prairie itself - due mostly to spurred economic development around nearby Kenosha (the county seat at that time). By 1890, businesses like dry-goods stores (), tinsmiths (), grocery stores (), and other retailing establishments were thriving here thanks to increasing demand from people living outside of town but Stillwater Springs – then just downstream – served as an important commercial center for both communities until it closed down during World War I

The first permanent settler in Pleasant Prairie was John Pritchard, who arrived in 1836. Pleasant Prairie was platted on March 25, 1856 by Wm. H. Freeman and James Averill of Winona Lake. The first post office was established in Pleasant Prairie on April 12, 1856. In 1857, Pleasant Prairie went to Union County when it was created from Ozaukee and Calumet counties. In 1903, the towns of West Allis and Arlington merged into Pleasant Prairie; this merger also caused the annexation of Iron Mountain Township east of the city limits to form new Pleasant Prairie township (it had been part of West Allis since its incorporation as a village in 1888). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2010, there were 5,593 people living in town: 3% Black or African American residents and 98% White residents
