Pleasant Prairie is a small town in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources near Green Bay. It has a population of about 460. The first man to live in Pleasant Prairie was Hezekiah LeRoy, who arrived there around 1836. He built a cabin on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first store in Pleasant Prairie was established by Abel Jameson in 1847. That store was used as a post office from 1849 to 1865. Pleasant Prairie is a small town in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is located in the central part of the county and is bordered by La Crosse to the east, India Grove to the north, Menomonie to the west and south, and Whitefish Bay to the northwest. According to the 2000 census, Pleasant Prairie has a total area of , of which (or 99.1%) is land and (or 0.9%) is water. The first Europeans settlement in what became Pleasant Prairie was made on March 14, 1836 by Levi Morton and his family as part of a fur-trading expedition led by John Cranch through what are now La Crosse County and into present-day Wisconsin. Morton landed on a point near today's Pleasant Prairie after failing to find an open field where he could establish himself as a settler with his new company at Green Bay; he named this place "Pleasant Prairie". The first permanent residents were Jens Nielsen and his wife Kirsten who arrived around 1840 from Denmark; they soon had six children. In 1846–47 Julius Høiland came overland from Norway as part of a group looking for land west of Milwaukee that would become Racine County; he founded Hanover Township in what later became Pleasant Prairie along with Drury Township on October 15, 1846 In 1855–56 Luther Pohlmann came overland from Germany via Duluth; he founded Menomonee Falls Township on February 17, 1855 just south of Hanover Township – this township would form part of present-day Menomonie County when it was organized January 1st 1860 . A post office called "Pleasant Prairie" was established at this location on December 12th, 1850 . In 1863–64 George Fenton set up camp in what is now Whitefish Bayou just east of Menomonie while prospecting for coal ; he named their settlement then "Fentonville". After Fenton's death during an attempted robbery there in 1865 his widow continued camping there until April 1865 when she moved back upstream into Menomonie County . On May 2nd 1865 Wm Epperson build a dam across Whitefish Bayou which provided power for their village until 1902 when electricity began being brought overland from Racine County . The initial connection between those living near Putnam Dam & Whitefish Harbor gave rise to rumors that someone had been stealing power lines so David Schwarz built an earthen dam across Whitefish Harborrazored enough so that no one could cross without getting hurt - these reports turned out not be true but did cause some worry about increased traffic on local roads during dark hours As early as 1861 much work had been done at Putnam Dammaintenance included building roads & bridges including one north/south road connecting Whitesboro Rd & Rte 66 Just North Of town w/the intent being eventually tp connect all villages w—now known as US Highways 30&66

Pleasant Prairie is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The name "Pleasant Prairie" comes from the French word "pleasure" and the English word "plain," which are both used to describe an agricultural spot near Milwaukee. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pleasant Prairie were French traders and missionaries in 1753 who named it after the village of Plessis-les-Bains on the upper Mississippi River. In 1836, Pleasant Prairie was platted as a town by John Wahlstrom and others under the name of West Allis Township. The first post office was established in 1837, and until 1874 it was called Centerburg. When Denmark became a US state in 1871, West Allis Township became part of Racine County; but when Racine County merged into Milwaukee County in 1893, West Allis Township remained within Milwaukee County. In 1870, Pleasant Prairie had a population of 514 people; by 1890 it had grown to 1,600 residents. From 1865 until 1967 it was part of Racine County; from 1967 until its annexation by Milwaukee in 1893 it formed part ofMilwaukee Police District No. 8 (later known as FBI District 8). During World War II (1941-1945), Pleasant Prairie served as an airfield for military aircraft activity at various points around town including Red Wing Municipal Airport and Marquette Municipal Airport (). There also were auxiliary storage facilities here for munitions production during World War II (). By 1970 there were only 100 people living here; today's population density is over 1,000 people per square mile (500 per square kilometer).
