The history of the United States Air Force is one that dates back to World War I. The first group of pilots who would become officers in the Air Force were commissioned as cadets in 1917. The AAF was created on December 16, 1918 when President Woodrow Wilson signed an act creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. On September 20, 1947, General Curtis LeMay ordered fighter bombers into high-level combat operations against Japan for the first time in history. By 1951, the U.S. had more than 1,500 air bases around the world and was considered a superpower by many countries. On July 17, 1949, General Hoyt S Claymore ordered Operation Overlord which led to America’s victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. The AAF played a major role in this conflict and has since been recognized as one of America’s most decorated military forces with more medals awarded than any other branch of service. In 1990, the AAF became part of the Department of Defense (DoD). Today, members of the U.S. Air Force can be found all over the world performing their sworn duty to defend our country and its citizens from harm at home or abroad. As a result of its long history and proud tradition, today’s USAF is made up of men and women who are dedicated to providing unmatched levels of service to their nation and friends aroundthe globe – both at home and abroad!

The Platteville Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s with a donation of a hangar and associated equipment to the base. The base was founded in 1942 as Platteville Army Airfield, and was renamed Platteville Air Force Base in 1945. The base served as an aerial refueling stop for the USAF during World War II. It also became home to the PT-6A "Pioneer" Aircraft, which were developed at the airbase. In 1947, the airbase was transferred to the United States Army and becoming known as Fort Snelling Army Airfield. The ground support wing (later Strategic Wing) was activated at Fort Snelling Army Airfield in 1949 and responsibility for all aspects of military aviation operations within Wisconsin came under its command. The wing played a significant role in developing and flying American jet fighters during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1966, Fort Snelling AFB was redesignated Whitworth AFB after Major General Edwin M. Whitworth, who had served as Deputy Commander at Fort Snelling AFB from 1951-1957. At Whitworth AFB, strategic wings were reorganized into Tactical Wings and responsibility for fighter aircraft fell within Tactical Wings levels; however bomber activity continued until 1994 when it was reactivated at Plattsburgh AFB, New York under Tactical Bomber Command control effective 1 July 1994. AFB Gift History In 1990, Plattsburgh AFB reopened its mission as Joint Torpedo Station Albany-Plattsburgh ASN #2 upon activation of Operation Desert Storm. As part of Operation Neptune's Spear, Joint Torpedo Station Albany-Plattsburgh ASN #2 became responsible for launching torpedoes at Saddam Hussein's forces located inside Kuwait on 15 August 1990. Afterward, Joint Torpedo Station Albany-Plattsburgh ASN #2 closed on 18 September 1990 following hostilities ceased. Since its closure in September 1990,, Joint Torpedo Station Albany-Plattsburgh ASN #2 has been property ofthe US Government National Museum of American History.< ref name="/nationalmuseum/>
Platteville is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,026 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis–Stout Metropolitan Statistical Area. Platteville was founded in 1847 by James J. Platt and his brother-in-law John McLaughlin as a small farming community on the east side of the Kettle River. The first store and post office were built there in 1848. By 1860, Platteville had a population of 150 people and two churches. In 1881, platting out lots to create theirown town boundaries, platted citizens of Platteville numbered 627 with a total land area of . The first school opened in plat form in 1886 and taught reading, writing and arithmetic until 1916 when it became a high school. The city council changed its name to Platteville after 180 acres (72 hectares) of land that was donated by Solomon Davenport for building purposes only within the limits established for platting out the town – now known as North Townline Drive; this gift remains one of the most significant landmarks in downtown Platteville today. One hundred years later (2005), North Townline Drive still stands as an important street artery running through downtown Platteville providing easy access to all parts of town while also serving as both commercial and cultural center for many residents who live there including restaurants, bars/nightlife venues, art galleries/museums/etc., making it one thriving metropolis right off Highway 12A! In recent years Downtown Platteville has experienced rapid growth with several new businesses opening up including: Downtown PlatteVILLE has seen rapid growth over the last few years with several new businesses opening up such as "Pizza Place" which started operations last year - giving locals more choices when it comes to pizza places around town!
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving back to the community. From donating airtime to support local charities, the USAF has always been supportive of its citizens. One of the most recent examples of this support came in the form of airforce gift history. In 2006, the USAF donated nearly $500,000 towards renovations to The Children’s Museum of Philadelphia. Since then, The Children’s Museum has seen increased visitation and donations from both fans and members of the USAF. In January 2018, it was announced that The Children’s Museum would be receiving an additional $60,000 in donation from the USAF in order to help improve their collection and storage capacity. This donation is just one example of how The Children’s Museum continues to rely on support from members of the USAF for funding and Expansion purposes.

The town of Platteville was founded in 1836 by John C. Platte and his wife, Sarah. The plat map from that year shows a small village on the western bank of the Green River, just east of present day Platteville. By 1840, plat maps shown in the Wisconsin Gazetteer had established a more definitive location for Platteville--a spot near what is now Waukesha County on the eastern side of the river. The plat map also showed land lying to the east and south (now part of Milwaukee County) as well as to the northwest (now Ashland County). In 1847, when Milwaukee was formed, Platteville became part of its city limits. The first post office opened in 1848 at what is now North Main Street and West State Street. In 1861, after Wisconsin's admission into the Union, settlers from Illinois started arriving in Platteville Community; many were farmers who had moved westward during the 1850s Busteplease Boom. Early industries included agriculture and lumbering. By 1870 this had changed to manufacture with two tannery businesses located along Waukesha Avenue and one mill producing flour for local markets In 1892 an express train derailed on a switch at milepost 572 near today's I-94 exit 111A junction; four people died and over 50 were injured including 24 children who were taken by train to a nearby hospital before being released unharmed 'the community Although shaken by this tragedy it continued to thrive due largely to its excellent infrastructure which included streetcar service running between town center and outlying farms
The town of Platteville was first settled in 1838. It was named after General John C. Platte, an American general who fought in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. The town's first post office was established in 1840. In 1846, a school was built in the town and it remained open until 1949. The plat shown on this map is from 1855 and shows the addition of a church to the town center.
