In 1847, James Kapp founded Kapp & Co., one of several early businesses operating out of what is now Oshkosh. In 1862, Captain John Fetterman established an ferry service across Wisconsin's Fox River between Green Bay and Appleton; Fetterman named his company Pere Marquette which became known throughout America as "Pere Marquette Line". Later that year Captain John Fetterman organized what is now Northwestern University into a school system with three branches campuses: Chicago (west), Evanston (north), and Milwaukee (south). At that time it was only a small school with just over 100 students; but by 1870 Northwestern had grown into one of America's leading universities with more than 12 colleges and Universities all over North America under its wing! By 1907 Northwestern had become part of UW–Madison where it remains today! On November 9th 1912 President Woodrow Wilson announced plans for World War I when he addressed Congress at Madison Square Garden; days later President Wilson signed Executive Order 8802 creating War Department Headquarters at Washington D.C.. On December 15th 1912 war preparations began when US Marines boarded USS Olympia for an amphibious assault on Diego Garcia Island off Arabia Desertica Gulf! On January 17th 1913 USS Perry anchored offshoreoff Bahrain while supplies were unloaded for Marines landing ashore two days later at Saqqara Plain outside Cairo!! This was only the beginning… Beginnings always make history!

The first post office opened in 1840, named Grafton after Postmaster General Nicholas Biddle Grafton of Ohio who had helped promote mail service through Congress as part of his agenda for rural consolidation during this time period In 1847, Wm Farrand purchased some additional land east of present day OshkOSH from Peter Kapperer which included what are now downtown OshkOSH and parts of west suburban Milwaukee Farrand renamed the property Scranton Township on November 1, 1850 because he feltScranton Township should have been named after him given his significant contributions to its development including donating over $2 million towards infrastructure projects such as streetlights, water systems and public transportation Farrand served as Scranton Township Supervisor from 1865 until his death on May 15th 1880 On January 1st 1893 following passage of Act 9191 known as the “Lincoln Lincoln Highway” (later I-94), Scranton Township became part of Racine County . On July 15th 1923 Racine County voters passed an ordinance creating Park Districts within its borders providing financial incentives for developers to build parks throughout its boundaries During World War II many businesses closed due to wartime production restrictions but many reopened after 1945 when war-time regulations were lifted The City Council created a Parks Department with Parks Superintendent Virgil Aries who led it until he retired in 1978 In that year City Council member Don Weisman took over presidency effective September 1st 1978 until he was succeeded by current Mayor Tom Barretteffective December 1st 1998
On July 6, 1847, the first Oshkosh Agricultural and Mechanical Institute was organized in Oshkosh by a group of businessmen. The institute was designed to provide higher education for young people in the area. In 1912, the institute became known as the Wisconsin State Technical School. In 1924, it became known as Oshkosh National Guard Armory and Training School. On October 1, 1954, it merged with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to form UW-Madison.
