Oak Creek is a small town in Racine County, Wisconsin. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of the Racine River. The first European to sight Oak Creek was French explorer Pierre- Francois de La Salle in 1679. La Salle named it after his friend and mentor, oak tree (Quercus robur). In 1854, a group of settlers from eastern Iowa founded the town of Appleton in what is now Racine County. They named their new community Oak Creek because they found an oak trees near where they were planning to settle. At first, there were only a few hundred people living in Oak Creek. In 1875, when Appleton became a city, its citizens took up arms against neighboring village Appleton over disagreements about property lines and taxation. The war ended with a peace treaty that allowed both villages to keep their land but exempted Oak Creek from paying taxes for 10 years. Oak Creek has been throughout various waves of population growth and decline; during its most recent heyday between 1920 and 1940 it had a population of around 2,000 people. However since then it has shrunk steadily until 1990 when it reached 1,821 residents - its current size being one half that of when it started out as an unincorporated community. One reason for this may be the increasing popularity of other larger towns such as Milwaukee or Waukesha within commuting distance; while Oak Creek retains some degree of significance due to its location within walking distance of much important local government functions (e.g., City Hall), these days it is more likely that someone would move into the small town if they could find something close by that offered similar services and amenities (although there are still some businesses located in central Oak Creek).

Oak Creek is located in Starke County, Wisconsin, and was first established by the Menominee people in the 17th century. The creek was named for a chestnut tree that grew along its banks. In 1847, Oak Creek was formed when two small streams were combined. The creek has been known to attract wild game ever since and still does today. The history of Oak Creek begins with the Menominee people. Like many other Native American groups, they hunted and gathered food near their settlements. Over time, they lost access to some of the important resources used by them and their neighbors. However, they continued to survive through hunting and fishing techniques which they shared with neighboring tribes. In 1775, French traders founded a trading post on the east bank of the current oak creek name in present-day Starke County. They named this post Fort de la Motte after one of their leaders, Jean-Baptiste La Motte. This venture failed due to lack of supplies and bad weather conditions at the time. However, later that year another group of French traders set up a post on nearby Big Sioux River which became known as Fort Meigs (now called Prairie du Chien). Unfortunately for these new settlers too, winter hit them hard and they were unable to trade or build any infrastructure necessary for survival. In 1776, after weeks of heavy rains that caused flooding throughout much of central Canada, English traders arrived at Fort Meigs with fresh supplies from England just in time for Christmas celebrations inside Canada! As English traders began exploring what lay beyond their original territory in North America during this period there were soon numerous posts established all over what is now Wisconsin - including Ft Meigs on Lake Michigan - among others! One such trader/explorer who visited Oak Creek region specifically during this time was Capt John Norum (1685-1756) who recorded his observations about native life at various points along Oak Creek’s banks back in 1787 while stationed aboard HMS Discovery off Rockwall Island off Milwaukee Harbor!Norum also noted several large chestnut trees growing along both sides of the creekbanks where it joins Big Sioux River - evidence that pre-European settlement activity had taken place hereabouts! Following Captain Norum’s visit there are references to improvements being made toOakCreek vicinity including: an oven built by Indian artificers; sawmill; gristmill; ferry service across stream into town etc., but no specific dates or locations are given providing further context about these facilities/improvements…. however some early pioneers didbefriended local Indians living around town so visits may have occurred sooner than later 🙂 . . . Some interestingnative Potawatomi artifacts uncovered during archaeological excavations at old village site include “a pottery dish shaped like an animal head having a human face carved upon it” dating backto ca 1800 AD making it one of earliestknown examples fromWisconsinof such an artifact type!!!
