The first coffee shop in New Berlin, Wisconsin opened in 1892. The business was run by a couple of German immigrants who named their shop Koffein & Kuchen (Coffee and Cake). The name soon became associated with the best quality coffee beans that were found in the area. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. John Haughey opened the first grocery store in town and started selling coffee from their house. In 1917, they added a bakery to their business and continued to sell coffee until 1981 when they closed down due to economic troubles.
New Berlin, Wisconsin is a town in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 917 at the 2000 census. New Berlin is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The town was organized on February 14, 1847 and named for New York City banker and politician Lewis Cass. New Berlin is located in the southwestern corner of Kewaunee County at (41.298571, -87.6349803). It borders the towns of Green Bay to the north and east, Waukesha to the south and west, Allendale to the northwest, and Racine to the southwest. The unincorporated communities of Brunswick Knob to the southeast and German Village to the northwest are also within New Berlin's boundaries but are not considered part of its municipal government or school district. According to USGS data, new Berlin has a total area of , all land. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 917 people residing in town: 527 households out of which 38% had children under age 18 living with them; 54% were married couples living together; 12% had a female householder with no husband present; and 24% were non-families. 21% of all households were made up of individuals and 6% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 2 persons; 25% consistedof three or more people; 10% had five or more people living alone who was 65 years old or older; 1%; and none had six or more people living alone who was 65 years old or older. He traded beans from Peru and Guatemala for Spanish goods, which he then sold back to Peru. In 1828, José Martí purchased some of Angelo Giacomo's beans and started roasting them himself. The first commercial pure espresso machines were developed in Italy in the 1870s by Luigi Bebbio and Giovanni Trombini. Their machine used water heated on an open fire to roast coffee. The flavor and texture of these early espresso machines varied greatly, but they all exhibited a high degree of quality and purity. In 1898, Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi wireless connected London with Milan using telephone lines leased from British telcos Atchison, Topcliffe and General Electric Company (GE). As a result of this connection, European businessmen had direct access to coffee grown on fields near their businesses in South America. This opened up new opportunities for coffee roasters around the world who could now sell their beans directly to consumers on an international scale. As commodity prices increased throughout the 20th century, so too did demand for fresh roasted coffee. By 1974, over two million pounds per day was being exported from Britain's port of Felixstowe into Europe through ports such as Rotterdam, Marseille and Valencia. New Berlin, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 8,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Eau Claire metropolitan area and its largest city is Milwaukee. The town was first settled by Germans in 1836, and settlers from Illinois began arriving in the 1840s. The name New Berlin was given to the community by General David Dixon because he thought it would be less likely to be attacked during the War of 1812 than other communities near Lake Michigan that were named for military leaders or pioneer families such as George Washington or Jonathan Edwards. New Berlin became a city in 1903 when it merged with nearby Eau Claire and Racine townships to form the city of Milwaukee County. In 1967, New Berlin became a member of the United States Census Bureau's American Community Survey program; it has since been counted as a municipality within Milwaukee County again. As of 2010, there were 9,752 people living in New Berlin proper and 5,848 living in neighboring Racine Township which also includes most of suburban Milwaukee including Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls. The economy of New York City had an impact on early German settlers who found work working on railroads throughout North America beginning in 1845-46 across what is now southeastern Wisconsin - many became wealthy through their work on these projects which spanned from Illinois all the way down to what are now Texas and Oklahoma Territory (the territory acquired by Kansas following Mexican War). Many new German immigrants brought their Lutheran Christianity with them from Germany while others converted to Roman Catholicism or Protestantism while they lived among Anglo American society (thus assimilating into American culture). Families who had children born here chose English names for their children after Lord Liverpool's proposal for a system where parents could choose one name for their offspring "upon application being made plainly setting forth both parents' nationalities". This policy seemed like an ideal solution at first as parents could pick something associated with themselves rather than just one Europeanized name - but quickly proved unpopular among many Germans because they felt Limited English speaking ability precluded them from choosing better names themselves and some ended up With incorrect Anglicized versions of their original European surnames ending in "-ing" like Johann (Johan) Grosse or Friedrich Wilhelm (Friedrich Wilhelm) Kesselring - not only did this reflect poorly on them within Society but also made it much harder for future generations should they need evidence that they actually belonged to any particular ethnicity/nationalitypes instead of just Trick or treating as Americans do today! Atkinson was one such individual who took advantage of this problem however using his birth certificate listing him as Johann Gottfried Anselm Atkinson insteadof Johan Gottfried Anselm Atkinson so that if contacted about anything regarding his birth later on he would be able to clear up any confusion caused by his incorrect spelling/numbering
New Berlin was first settled in 1836 by men from Michigan Territory. In 1839, the town became part of the Wisconsin Territory. New Berlin was named for George Washington Newbern, a Georgetown lawyer and member of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature. The name is derived from Old English "new beal" meaning "a fresh stream."
