The New Berlin Coast Guard Station was established in 1868 as a small post on the White River. In 1916, the Coast Guard Station was moved to its current location on the shores of Lake Michigan at Cape May. The station has been in continuous operation since then, playing an important role in keeping our community safe and maintaining our maritime infrastructure. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides support for law enforcement and emergency services along with providing educational opportunities to local youth. The station is also home to one of Wisconsin’s only Class A helicopter pads and a wide variety of機board stores and amenities. In addition to its many functions, the station has become an important cultural icons in New Berlin – helping contribute to its nickname “The City on the Lake”!

New Berlin was a small town in the northern Wisconsin state of Wisconsin from 1824 to 1853. It was located on the left bank of the Menomonee River, about 12 miles (19 km) south-southwest of Milwaukee. The post office was first established in 1824 and remained in operation until it closed in 1893. The town was named for New Berlin, Indiana, a village in Michigan Territory which had been founded by Danish immigrants. New Berlin's incorporation as a town occurred on November 3, 1853. The population of New Berlin peaked at around 1,500 during the 1850s but declined thereafter due to numerous factors including white migration westward and industrialization within nearby Milwaukee. In 1890, NewBerlin had an estimated population of 350; however, this number decreased over time and by 1910 it had dwindled to just 50 residents remaining. By 1920 only 10 people still lived there; its last resident died in 1938.
New Berlin was organized as a town in 1834. It was named after the new town of Berlin, Ohio, which had been founded in 1830. New Berlin was originally part of the Town of Racine.
