Muskego, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Muskego is located on the Fox River and is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. The town was named for General George Custer during his military service in India due to his birthplace being just outside of Rockford, Illinois (now Des Moines). In 1969, Muskego became one of six towns to be merged into Green Bay County when that county was created out of portions of Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. At that time, it had a population of just over 108,000 people combined including those living within its boundaries; today that number has grown significantly to more than 225,000 residents within its borders alone! Hickey built a cabin on the northeast side of the village and named it Hickey's Grove. In 1851, Jonas Couggan purchased land inMuskego from Hickey and developed it into a small town with a sawmill and grist mill. In 1872, Julius Vogt bought some additional land near Muskego and founded Vogt's Mills. This company produced flour for local grocery stores as well as export markets in Europe. In 1916, Vogt sold his assets to George Wirths, who renamed Muskego "Moses" after Moses Fenton Woodruff Jr., one of Vogt's employees at his mills. In recent years, Muskego has experienced modest growth but significant cultural significance due to its role in the history of Wisconsin society. The community has been home to many different types of businesses and residents since its inception as an agricultural outpost over 100 years ago.
