The USS Milwaukee (AO-11) arrived in town for an official visit on October 18, 1968. In 1977, a gift from then Mayor David Sorensen marked the completion of installation of new pier equipment at Naval Base Park adjacent to Academy Stadium. This event was also attended by then Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Mrs. Reagan. In 1984, another gift from Commodore Rodgers made it possible for Navy personnel stationed at Naval Base Park to use land adjacent to Academy Stadium for training purposes during ice hockey season. The following year saw an even larger donation - this time $25,000 - which allowed for installation of a gymnasium and swimming pool within Naval Base Park as well as expanded athletics programs including baseball, basketball and softball teams among others In 1992, Captain James Hickey assumed command of USS Milwaukee (AO-11) after its departure from Naval Station Whidbey Island after nearly twenty years service with the US Navy In 2002, Rear Admiral Jeffrey Ladd became Commanding Officer (CO) USS Milwaukee (AO-11) effective September 15th On November 13th 2006 Rear Admiral Jeffrey Ladd announced his retirement effective December 1st . He will be succeeded by Commander Harry Jourdain who assumed command on January 1st 2007 The USS Milwaukee is currently being berthed at NAS Whidbey Island where she has served since her arrival there in 1978

Mount Pleasant is a small town in central Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is located in the Driftless Region of the Great Lakes Area. The town has a long and proud history that began with pioneers who set up camp on the site of present-day Mount Pleasant in 1837. The first settlers were farmers and their families who arrived from Illinois in 1837. They built log homes and started a school in what is now the downtown area of Mount Pleasant. Businesses were started by two men, Charles Kapp and John Tilton, who ran a gristmill and store in what is now the village of West Allis. By 1840, many other families had moved to Mount Pleasant from surrounding counties including Douglas, Steuben, Racine, Milwaukee, Washtenaw and Winnebago Counties. The original church was built near where it stands today on First Street between Second and Third Avenues. The town grew rapidly due to its location onMilwaukee Road which connected Chicago with Madison County (now Racine County) across the Mississippi River via Dodge City Creek. In 1852, when Milwaukee Avenue was designated as part of state Route 7 (later US 34), Mount Pleasant became one of its stops along that route. In 1870s much growth took place due to construction of the Rock Island Railroad through central Wisconsin which connecting Chicago with Minneapolis/St Paul via Lake Superior State Park north of Detroit Heights; this helped fuel demand for goods produced within central Wisconsin including lumber products and chicken eggs among others During World War I there was an influx of soldiers barracks into Mountpleasant as part of General Motors’ effort to build plants throughout Midwest during that war . Afterward businesses slowly lost customers because there was no need for such large numbers of employees outside wartime production . However over time people have returned back to business as usual In recent years mountpleasant has seen growth in new development such as a health care center which opened up shop next door to Main Street Bank after being vacated by another business owner . Additionally there has been an increase in bars & restaurants opening up around town giving more opportunities for nightlife activity

The first store in Mount Pleasant was opened by John Pritchard in 1834. In 1840, a post office was established at Mount Pleasant and remained open until 1907. There are several churches located in the town; One being First Baptist which was built in 1865 and dedicated by Governor Abraham Lincoln. In 1916, two brothers named Harold and Bernard Kapp founded the Kapp Paper Mill located along Deerfield Road near present-day Lake Michigan Boulevard. The mill produced paper for magazines such as "Life" and "The Saturday Evening Post". It closed down around 1972 but portions of it still stand today including an observation deck overlooking the river that offers a great view of downtown Milwaukee from above ground level
Ada W. O'Neill was born in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin on October 9, 1847. She was the daughter of John P. and Nancy (Fletcher) O’Neill. Ada married Simeon Ladd on November 3, 1879 in Mount Pleasant and they lived together until his death in 1921. Ada had two children with Ladd- her sister Nora and her brother Simeon Jr.
