Monroe, Wisconsin is home to the first coffee roasting business in the city in 1887. The business was started by two men, George and John Witherspoon. The Witherspoon family continued to run the business until 1924 when it passed into private hands. In 1984, the business was sold to a German-owned company and was operated as a nondenominational grocery store for many years. In 2006, Starbucks announced that they would be opening their first location in Monroe. The new location opened in October of that year and became the first Starbucks store outside of Seattle. The coffee shop has since been open every day of the week except on Sundays. The history of Monroe coffee goes back much further than that however. There are references to coffee being roasted here dating back to at least 1693 when French explorer Jacques Marquette made reference to Lake Monona as "Avenue de la Coffe." Coffee beans were grown here until about 1870 however it wasn't until after World War II that production really began to grow significantly. After World War II, demand for quality coffees increased exponentially due to changes in global trade which led to more balanced economies around the world. Today, Monroe is one of only a few locations in Wisconsin where you can purchase fresh roasted coffee from local roasters like Blue Bottle Coffee and Black & Decker Coffee Company. In addition, there are several cafés and restaurants located within walking distance of the city center which offer delicious mugshots of Monroe's famous coffee beans on their menus!

Monroe, Wisconsin is the birthplace of coffee. The town was founded in 1824 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his wife Catherine de Carondelet. The first Coffee House opened in 1830. In 1840, John Jacob Astor started a coffee business in the town. In 1856, J.P. Morgan moved his coffee business to Monroe from New York City and named it Jardin du Roque after the estate where he had bought some land years earlier.
Monroe is a small town in the hills of southeastern Wisconsin. The citizens hereabouts are friendly and welcoming, and their economy is based on agriculture. Monroe has a diverse history, including pioneer days, prohibition days, and now the wonderful culture of the university town. The first settlers in this area were Germans who arrived in 1836. They raised crops and hunted game until they discovered rich coal seams near what is now Monroe. In 1847, two brothers named Fritsch bought land here and built a log cabin that remains standing today. The area was named after General James Monrovia, an American general who fought in the Mexican-American War. Families from eastern Wisconsin started arriving in Monroe around this time to take advantage of the new land opportunities. Many skilled workers moved to town during these years – farmers turned cart drivers, mechanics worked at local quarries, lumberjacks did odd jobs for families nearby – all while helping build up what would become Monroe’s thriving economy. The population reached its peak around 1900 when more than 100 people lived hereabouts; however, by 1920 it had dwindled to just 25 residents due to heavy competition from larger towns within easy driving distance. But things changed forever when the University of Wisconsin opened its doors in Monroe in 1921! This landmark event helped turn things around for the small community; within 10 years it had doubled its population to 75 people thanks to students coming home for school (and picking up some skills along the way). And though there have been some occasional downsides (a few storefronts went bankrupt during tough economic times), overall life has been very positive hereabouts – you can feel “the energy of community” welling up inside every person here! As one might expect given such positive characteristics as continuous growth and strong social bonds among its inhabitants, today Monroe ranks highly on many measures of success: It has a high quality education system with excellent programs that prepare students for successful lives outside of their homes; its businesses are prospering thanks both to innovation and natural resources; there are few if any negative trends emerging that could impact future growth; and most importantly, residents remain deeply involved with their community through various activities (from civic engagement through sports teams to volunteer work).

Monroe is a town in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,782 at the 2010 census. The original village of Monroe was founded in 1836 and incorporated as a town in 1855. The post office at Monroe was first established in 1837 and changed its name to Anson in 1853. The city of Monroe was organized in 1865 and became the county seat of Monroe County. The city moved from its original location to the current site near what is now downtown Monroe on November 15, 1972. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,711 people, 654 households, and 469 families residing in the town. The population density was 362.4 people per square mile (159.8/km²). There were 713 housing units at an average density of 169.9 per square mile (71.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3%. There were 654 households out of which 29 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54 percent were married couples living together, 10 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 38 percent were non-families. 27 percentof all households were made up of individuals and 11 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older
Monroe was founded in 1847 by John C. Monroe and his wife, Sarah. The town first grew around the Monroe Brewery, which was located on the east side of the town. In 1861, the brewery burned down, and as a result, many new residents moved to the new town. The town experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to military bases in Wisconsin and Michigan. However, since then, Monroe has slowly been declining in population.
