Middleton is a town in Brown County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Middleton is located in the Midwestern United States on the north shore of Lake Michigan. The village of Middleton is south of town and has a population of about 350 people. The first mention of Middleton comes from 1836 when it was part of the Town of Waukesha which was created from parts of townships Nowhere and La Crosse. In 1839, it became a part of the Town of Ironwood which had been created from parts of three other townships: Hennepin (now Minneapolis), Duluth, and Chicago Heights. On November 3, 1857, Ironwood incorporated as a city with a population over 10,000 people but only had an area under 5 square miles due to lack of land. On October 26th 1870, Middleton became a town when all its southwestern section including much later middletown were annexed by the new town . On February 17th 1915 Menomonee Falls annexed Middleton while Waukesha annexed Menomonee Falls on December 11th 1915 creating what is now known as Milwaukee County. In 1959 Menomonee Falls was dissolved as part-time home rule for its residents voted not to incorporate into Milwaukee County because they wanted more control over their own affairs They did this again in 1991 when they repealed their Home Rule charter voting 54%-46% in favor against incorporation into Milwaukee County The last time there was an attempt to annex Menomonee Falls was on July 24th 2006 where they successfully petitioned for annexation but lost out to Racine

Middleton, Wisconsin is a village in the town of Middleton in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,686 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Menomonee Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Middleton was platted in 1854 and named for Major John Middletown (1792-1862), who had been captain of Company D, 3rd U.S. Infantry during the War of 1812 and served as lieutenant colonel on garrison duty at Fort Dearborn from 1813 to 1815. Middletown's father, David Wm., also a militiaman and landowner in this area, donated land to form what would become Middleton Village. Judge James Prentice organized a board of trustees to plat and build schools in Middleton Village on December 12, 1861; these were among the first educational institutions west of the Mississippi River. In 1870 when Dodge County became part of Milwaukee County, it included much of present-day Middleton Village including most of its buildings still standing today such as School No. 1 (now Douglass Senior High School), Methodist Church (built 1886), Presbyterian Church (1893), Post Office (dedicated 1888), Baptist Chapel (founded 1865) and First Baptist church building (1901). In 1902 a new courthouse was built north of present dayDouglas Senior High School with additions made over time including an ice cream parlor/meat market/gas station/grocery store addition(1964). The village incorporated as a municipality on August 29th, 1954 under the name “Dodge City” after then Mayor John Cramer whose term expired that year but who remained honorary mayor until his death on October 10th 1960 making him only 2nd longest serving mayor ever in Wisconsin history behind Abe Beemer who held office for almost 44 years! On February 14th 1976 incorporation by referendum resulted in voters approving creation of an elected township government with 10 member boards which took effect March 1st 1977!!! This gave rise to current Township Manager position effective date January 1st 1978!!!
