The Coast Guard has been in operation in Middleton, Wisconsin since 1861. The first unit to be constituted was the Volunteer Fire Department, which was organized on October 24, 1861. The first station ever established in Middleton was the Station at Cedar Rapids. In 1871, a new station was built at Gulf Point on the Fox River. In 1915, a new station called Hales Point was opened. The coast guard's present headquarters are located at Middletonport Harbor on the Fox River. There are also stations located at Waukesha and Menomonee Falls. Middleton, Wisconsin is a town located in the town of Middleton, Wis., United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis–Neenah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in what is now Middleton were Indians who arrived in 1763 from Canada. By 1836 the community had a population of 190 people and was named for Nicholas-Jacques Middleton, an Englishman who served as postmaster at Green Bay. A store and tavern were built there in 1837 by Drury and Company merchants under license from the government. In 1841 the first school was opened in what is now Middleton with twelve students and teacher Mr. Wm. Prentice teaching grades one to six. The first church was built on Main Street in 1851 by Revs John Ladd and Ebenezer Goode with services held twice a week on Saturday afternoons before downtown businesses closed for lunchtime (later Sundays). In 1865, when Prairie du Chien became an incorporated city, Middleton became part of that city's limits; it retained its own ZIP code until 1990 when it merged into Green Bay's ZIP code 53514 . The local paper industry declined during World War II but has come back strong since then due to advances technology and new printing methods. The company that produced most of Wisconsin's yellow pages started out here - Algonquin Books & News - but moved their operations to Chicago aftermarket beginning in 1967 because they found no competition there among large publishing companies east of the Mississippi River. One major product that still comes out of this company is "Wisconsin State Journal" advertising circulars which are reprinted all over Wisconsin including online atWSJcirculars dot org In 2007, Algonquin Publishing announced plans to close its longtime headquarters building downtown effective July 1st 2008 due to weak economic conditions nationwide although they will continue print products from their presses until later this year according to staff announcements made during business meetings last December 16th thru January 2nd 2007\. At about this time papers such as "WTMJ-TV6" began using alternative web hosting providers which included Algonquin Publications' former website space without any notice being given or payment being received

Middleton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the right bank of the Middleton River. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. The name "Middleton" originated from a settler named John Middleton and his wife Anne who arrived in 1838. The first store in Middleton was established by Wm. Atherton in 1846, and early settlers raised corn, hay, and cattle. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads arrived in 1871 and transportation became available for goods more easily than when delivery depended on horse or wagon trips circuitously through remote villages like nearby Apple Prairie and Tomahawk Junction. During World War II, Middleton served as an important munitions manufacturing center for Allied forces fighting against Nazi Germany. In 1945, most of the manufacturing had stopped due to war-time production standards but a few factories continued until 1949 when all but one closed down because of recessionary conditions elsewhere in the country; this left Middleton with only two small businesses left active at its peak: a grocery store and an insurance agency which continued until 1979 when it too closed down due to economic decline along with other local businesses that were unable to compete with larger companies Interstate 94 had opened up making travel much easier so many residents decided they did not need their stores anymore and simply moved away leaving behind abandoned buildings housing small businesses now known as ghost towns
Middleton, Wisconsin was first settled in 1836. The town was named for James Middleton, a congressman from Ohio who served in the U.S. Congress from 1835 to 1840. The town was incorporated on February 14, 1847.
