The first coffee shop in Middleton was the Coffee Shop on Main Street, which opened in 1965. The original roaster was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Schultz, who operated it until 1971. In 1979, the town of Middleton founded its own coffee company, called Middleton Coffee Company, Inc., which still operates today. Over the years, other local businesses have joined forces with Middleton Coffee Company to form the present day artisan coffee community in Middleton. Since 1965, Middleton Coffee Company has been responsible for providingWisconsinites with some of the best quality artisanal espresso beans available. Middleton is located in the town of West Allis, Wisconsin. It is home to the Middleton Coffee Company, founded in 1892. The company was later renamed the Middleton Coffee & Tea Co., and then finally the Middleton Coffee & Cafe chain. In 1971, the company became a part of Starbucks Corporation.
Middleton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the river bluffs northeast of Milwaukee. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Middleton is part of the Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis Combined Statistical Area. The first people to arrive in this area were the Menominee and Potawatomi Indians who built their villages near what is now Middleton in 1836. In 1847, George Washington Carver founded a farm here which became one of Wisconsin's leading agricultural towns and served as a node for trade with Illinois and Minnesota as well as with other parts of the United States. In 1875, John Cockerill bought land at what is now High School Square from Carver for $5 per acre (the cost then was about ). He would later name his family's business - Cockerill Cotton Mills - after himself and his father, James Cockerill Sr., who also owned land in Middleton. The mills produced cotton until around 1954 when they closed due to competition from more efficient machines by Unilever
