Small batch coffee has been a popular beverage for centuries. The first smallbatch coffee production was in Mequon, Wisconsin in the early 1800s. There were three small-scale roasters in Mequon at the time: John Fetterman’s Coffee, Harry and Al’s Coffee and Roasters. The first large-scale commercial production of smallbatch coffee began in earnest around 1915 when The Milwaukee Road decided to open its new Midtown Station near the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. This station allowed them to produce more than 1 million cups of coffee each week from their new roasting plant. At this point, small batch coffee was being brewed all over the United States and Europe. During World War II, many American soldiers stationed abroad came home withacquired tastes for cup of Joe that they had experienced while serving overseas. When they returned stateside, they brought their new found love for small batch coffee with them back to town. A few local businesses started up after the war to capitalize on this trend and continue producing quality beans under one roof. By 1970, there were more than 20 independent small-batch coffee businesses operating across the United States

Small batch coffee history in Mequon, Wisconsin starts with the first coffee shop opened in Mequon in 1947. The first coffee was roasted by Tom and Mary Seibert and it consisted of ground beans that they brought home from their farm. In 1951, the Seiberts open a second store called The Coffee Shop which became one of the most popular small batch coffee shops in town. Today, there are over 20 different small batch coffee shops located throughout Mequon.
Mequon is a town in the Wisconsin county of Racine. The population was 7,819 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The town was named for Nahum Mequon, an early settler and fur trader who crossed the Rock River from Great Britain in 1836. The first post office was established in 1846, and Mequon became a village in 1854. Mequon began to grow rapidly during the late 19th century as a result of its strategic location on the eastern edge of what is now Milwaukee County and its access to new markets for agriculture and commerce. Manufacturing also grewduring this time, becoming important components of Mequon's economy. By 1920, Mequon had over 20 businesses and employed over 100 people; however, by 1940 only ten businesses remained and only three employees were employed full-time. In 1955, with the opening of Interstate 94 nearby and advances in transportation technology, auto manufacturing resumed as an important component of Mequon's economy once again. Today, automotive production remains one of Mequon’s most significant economic drivers but has been declining recently due to competition from other areas within Wisconsin’s agricultural or manufactured goods industries; however, it still remains one of Racine County’s most vibrant communities
Small batch coffee has had a long and varied history, ranging from the pioneers who started small-scale roasting in the early 1800s to today’s microbreweries. Through it all, small batch coffee has been an important part of the American coffee experience. The first known smallbatch coffee was roasted by George Washington and his staff on President’s Day, November 7, 1799. The roast was made with two beans each from two different trees—the African Kaffir tree and the Java Palm Tree—and was a tribute to Washington's personal favorite beverage: robust black coffee. Over time, many other presidents and key figures have enjoyed small batch coffees. In 1916, Warren G Harding Sr., president of the United States (1911-1921), awarded a Special Award for Excellence in Coffee to David Atherton of Philadelphia's Swann Brothers Coffee Company for his excellence in Small Batch Coffee production. In 1944, Franklin D Roosevelt gave a speech at Wilson College praising America’s “ensemble of industries which produce quality products that are distributed throughout our society - some 16% of total national output - [which] gives us access to world markets through our exports” (FDR).Roosevelt also noted that “the country is now well supplied with good quality milk for its needs; but there is room for improvement in both our cereal crops and our hops industry" (quoted in "Wilson College Presents FDR Awards", Wilson College website). This statement set the standard for future presidents to speak positively about small batch coffee when discussing America's economy. In 1965, Bob Dylan recorded "I Shall Be Released" while he was living at Woodstock Music Festival in New York City. The song features lyrics about how Dylan "went out and bought some nice Colombian sunroof[ed] cars/And drove back hereabouts/To start drinking my own special blend/Of fresh roasted beans from my own little farmstead/That I named 'Bob Dylan.'") This performance marked the first time large numbers of people had seen or heard about small batch coffees firsthand. It wasn't until after Dylan's death that interest in this type of coffee grew once again within organized brewing communities across America. By 1971, popular author Hunter S Thompson wrote an article titled "A Taste Of Small Batch Coffees" for Rolling Stone magazine which discussed various aspects of marijuana smoking during this period as well as tiny batches being used as single malt Scotch whisky production,. In 1985 Hunter S Thompson published another article called "Cup OfJoe" which featured photos and recipes submitted by readers illustrating various methods used to make cup-o'-Joe tea from small batches of espresso beans

Mequon is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Mequon was founded in 1854 by James Mequon and his wife Catharine (Hickey) Mequon. It is named after John Fitch, who bought land in what is now Mequon in 1837. In 1857, the town was chartered as a village and it became a city on November 3, 1907. On December 10 of that year, the city limits were expanded to include all of Winnebago County.
