Mequon, Wisconsin is a small town in the central part of Wisconsin. It was founded in 1836 and was once the county seat for Milwaukee County. The population was 8,812 as of the 2010 census. The first settlers in Mequon were Germans who came from Germany to farm land near Lake Michigan. On July 1, 1836, the township of Mequon was organized and named after John Meeker, an early settler in this area. The first post office in Mequon was established on July 4, 1836. The town is located on the left bank of the Menomonee River adjacent to Milwaukee County and has a total area of . It borders Waukesha County to the north and east; Racine County to the south; and Kenosha County to the west. The community took its name from John Meeker because he donated land for it. Other early settlers included Peter Kresser (1810-1872), Elias Hirsch (1811-1879), George Beardsley (September 20, 1814-May 6, 1888), Nicholas Scherer (October 9, 1830 - January 29, 1906), Johann Baptist Ziegler (November 25th - December 17th c1800) and Friedrich Fuhrer (August 14th - October 5th 1800). The first school built in Mequon was a log cabin known as "School House #1" which stood near what is now Market Square. A second school building also served during this time but it burned down in 1851 when too much heat caused by lightning destroyed part of it. In 1857 another school building replaced School House #1 which stood across busy Main Street from present day Market Square prior to its demolition in 1912 due to fire damage sustained by heavy rains while being used as military storage during World War I In 1865 a third school building replaced School House #1 which stood at what is now First Avenue South before it too caught on fire however this one did not burn down like original Schoolhouse#1 had however due to extreme weather conditions water started seeping through cracks resulting later that year in total destruction including all 3 buildings with loss of life when natural disasters struck such as floods etc

Mequon, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Mequon County and one of the most populous towns in Northern Wisconsin. The name means "place where wood grows." The first settlers to Mequon were pioneers who arrived there in 1836. They named their new community after their home village of Menomonee Falls, Ontario, Canada. The first post office was established in 1839 and was called Menomonee Falls until it changed its name to Mequon in 1867 because of railroad construction nearby. In 1860, a small railway station was built on the east side of town by John Fitch and Wm Hickey for the Milwaukee-Milwaukee Railroad company’s line between Milwaukee and Rockford. At that time only two coaches per day service ran through Mequon; today this number reaches six or seven times per day! Today's Main Street is one of those original roads which served as an important artery for transportation during early Days when Mequon had but few residents! The following year saw another important development with Mequon becoming a stop on stagecoach lines running between Chicago and Lake Michigan bringing passengers from all over Northwestern Wisconsin including Racine (then Racine Heights) as far south as Superior. In 1865 local farmers formed a lumberyard/grains store business adjacent to what is now First Avenue Southwest corner First Street East which later became known as Terminal Road! On July 1st 1907, the Town of Mequon granted cityhood to Racine! Racine quickly grew into one of NorthernWisconsin’s most vibrant cities with numerous businesses lining Terminal Road just north of downtown – many still active today! On November 3rd 1914 voters ratified a proposition to change the name from “Mequon” to “Racine” reflecting both our rapidly growing city and diverse racial heritage!
