In the early 1800s, the Menomonie Coast Guard was one of the first organisations in Wisconsin to be established. The coast guard was created in 1817 as a response to fears of pirates and smugglers operating along the Wisconsin coastline. At its peak, the coast guard had over 100 personnel and patrols were conducted daily along both coasts. The men who worked on the coastguard were some of the most dedicated members of their profession. They were often risked their lives while patrolling to stop smugglers and pirates from sailing up into Canada or fishing off Wisconsin’s shoreline. In addition to their work on the sea, they also patrolled land during wintertime with dogs to help prevent frostbite. Despite its success at stopping crime and piracy, however, the coastguard eventually disbanded in 1852 due to budget cuts. However, it is still remembered today for providing much-needed service during a time when borders were fluid and international relations were not as strong as they are now.

Menomonie, Wisconsin is a small town in the upper Midwest. The population was 4,866 at the 2010 census. Menomonie is located in Waukesha County. The original Menomonie settlement began on the west side of the Des Moines River in 1836. In 1851, Menomonie became one of the towns in Waukesha County. The name Menomonie originates from a location about two miles north of present day Menomonie on the east bank of the Kinnickinnic River. Reverend Samuel Mills and his family moved to this location in 1854 and named their new home "Menominiere." In 1870, when Waukesha County was created, Menominiere became part of it and continued to be known as such until 1959 when it reverted back to its original name. Today, Menonomoine continues to be a vibrant community with active businesses and an overall positive feeling around it. Thanks to its strong local economy and supportive community members, menomonee has been able to maintain many traditions dating back centuries including its annual ThreeDays Festival which draws over 100 vendors each year! Additionally, there are several yearly events that occur throughout the year that bring people together such as Ribfest (a popular gathering for farmers), Pumpkinfest (the largest event in town), Christmas Eve lights display by local churches/ chapels and more! In addition to these traditional activities nucleus include several arts festivals throughout the year which include FolklifeFest (an all-encompassing festival focused on Folklore art & culture)and ShakespeareFestival (a selection of plays performed with scenic elements).

In 1934, the Coast Guard was formed as a merger of the United States Customs Service and the Revenue Cutter Service. The Coast Guard's mission is to prevent navigation hazards on our Nation's coastal waters, protect public safety, and maintain order in these treacherous environments. The Coast Guard gift history can be traced back to 1897 when Department stores in New York City began selling small gifts for members of the U.S. Military, including medals and badges. These small gifts soon became known as "coast guard souvenirs." In 1935, Congress passed a law authorizing the erection of coast guard stations along our Nation's coasts. Menomonie was founded on August 17, 1854 by John W. Menomonie and his wife, Anna P. Menomonie. The town was named after Menomonie's father, who had been born in the town in 1811. The men started a small store and post office here and soon began to build up the community with their families. By 1870, they had a grocery store and two blacksmiths. In 1876, they built a school which became the first public school in the area. In 1905, they merged with neighboring Racine to form Racine-Menomonie-Muncie. In 1972, Menomonie joined the city of Milwaukee as part of an agreement between Milwaukee Mayor Richard Mauer and then-Governor George Ryan that allowed for the merger of cities with larger populations when there were more than 50% African American residents living within each city limits. As part of this agreement, Menomonie became one of only two towns in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee that did not have its own police department until 1974 when it was joined by Racine. Today, Menomonie is home to over 20 businesses including several banks, three churches (one from 1907), four schools (one high school and three elementary schools), an ice cream parlor/coffee shop/cafeteria/grocery store combo called "The Gilded Age", a bowling alley/, movie theater/, golf course/, tavern/, doctor'/nurse'/lawyer' offices/, two gas stations/, two major credit unions/. And it has recently become popular for summer tourism because of its beautiful river views from many homes along its length!.
Menomonie was originally founded by the Menomonee Indians in 1763. It was named after the Menomonee River, which flows through the town. The first settlers arrived in 1765 and founded a small village on the east side of the river. Over time, Menomonie grew and became a major community with many businesses and services. In 1836, it incorporated as a city and has grown ever since.
