The barracks served as the nucleus for what became West Allis Naval Air Station (later Naval Air Station Milwaukee). In 1907, local men organized an agricultural fair that attracted over 100 exhibitors from around the country. That same year saw the opening of Menomonie's first grocery store by grocer A.B. Lemoine and his brother-in-law Wm Burchfield Jr.. In 1911, postal service began delivering mail to Menonomovie from Racine through Midland Junction on April 14th - one week ahead of schedule!
