In Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, the history of the town dates back to 1836. The first settler in Menomonee Falls was Isaac Harmon, who beganearing the land in that year. In 1839, James Fenton and his family erected a log cabin on the banks of the Menomonee River. They were followed by other settlers over the next few years. In 1840, John Ladd came to Menomonee Falls from Racine and founded what is now known as Ladd’s Block Shop. Over time, many other businesses were opened in Menomonee Falls- including a bakery (1860), grocery store (1867), post office (1892), and livery stable (1912). The town rapidly grew during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its natural resources; namely waterfalls and forests. The community acquired its current name of Menomonee Falls in 1911 when it became part of Green Bay County. In 1917, electric streetlights were installed inMenomonee Falls- making it one of only two towns in Green Bay County with that type of service at that time. As menopause reached epidemic proportions throughout much of America during the 1920s and 1930s, Women’s Health Services set up shop in Menomonee Falls to provide affordable contraception to women living in rural areas across America. This innovative program eventually led to more women being able to get married and have children without fear of birth control becoming government property or subject to price hikes or loss of access. During World War II, numerous military personnel stationed at Camp Randall nearby requested storage for their food products within walking distance of their barracks- this resulted in Menomonee Falls becoming an important manufacturing center for wartime munitions production. After the war ended, business slowly declined until some new initiatives brought about a resurgence beginning around 2006 which has seen various businesses open up within the past 5 years alone: coffee shop/liquor store fronting Main Street (& later relocated into another building) called “The Market” & 3 restaurants: Red Robin Inn (2009), Jimmy Johns (2010) & most recently Chinese takeout restaurant Panda Express(2018).

The Menomonee Falls area was inhabited by the Menomonee people for over 10,000 years. In 1836, the first white settlers arrived in the area and named it Menomonee Township. The first post office was established at Menomonee Falls in 1846. The town of Menomonee Falls was platted on November 24, 1850 and became a city on February 17, 1861. On July 20, 1871, the town of West Bend was organized from portions of Menomonee Falls and Village. On September 11, 1907, the City of Milwaukee annexed portions of West Bend to make it a separate municipality. The population ofMenomonee Falls increased from about 6300 in 1900 to over 21000 by 1920. During World War II more than 4000 men from Wisconsin worked in the war industry in Europe; most were stationed at Peenemünde Naval Base on Long Island Sound where they produced weapons such as submarines and artillery pieces. On May 15th, 2009- after more than two decades of planning- Menomonee Falls presented Mayor Marty Bideaux with a gift certificate for $10K worth of new sidewalk construction that will be needed to upgrade several streets including Main Street which is currently potholed and needs patching; Court Street which has been washed out multiple times since 2007 due to heavy rains; First Avenue which is one lane wide with no curb or bollard between Second Avenue and Third Avenue; and Fifth Avenue which has not beenphalted since before WWII due to its high water table). In order to help promote economic development within their community mayor Bideaux offered an event for businesses interested in exhibiting their products or services at an open house scheduled for Saturday January 12th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at City Hall located at 901 E State St., Wausau
