Marshfield, Wisconsin is a town in Calumet County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to encounter the area were French traders and missionaries who founded a mission in 1763 on what is now Marshfield Boulevard. The town was organized in 1836 and named for General James K. Polk of the United StatesArmy who had died during the Mexican-American War. Marshfield was one of twelve towns consolidated into the city of Milwaukee by Mayor John Chisholm on January 1, 1840. At that time it had a population of 2,500 people and consisted of two blocks east of State Street between Third and Fourth avenues; west from State Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues; north from Washington Avenue between Ninth and Tenth avenues; south from Congress Parkway betweenEleven and Twelve streets; east from Capitol Drive between Thirteenth and Fourteenth Streets. The consolidation removed many frontier settlers who had found opportunities for farming or industry in new settlements near Milwaukee but left behind their homes, churches, schools, stores, warehouses etc., which still survive today as part as part of downtown Milwaukee’s business district including Marshfield Blvd., North Avenue (now North Park Ave.), West Avenue (now Waukesha Ave.), South Avenue (now South Park Ave.), Forbes avenue (now Ashland Ave.), Michigan avenue (now Watertown Dr.), Justus Road (now Hennepin Rd.)

Marshfield is a town in the town of West Allis, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,903 at the 2010 census. It was originally founded as a village in 1854. The present-day town was organized as a municipality in 1912. The first settler in Marshfield was Eli Whitney, who arrived in 1835 and started to farm land around what is now the center of town. By 1860, most of what is now Marshfield had been developed and named Rush Street ran through it. In 1869, John Prentice bought some more land east of Rush Street and built the first store there. In 1875, he sold his land to George Merrill for $3 per acre. Merrill divided his land into two lots and donated one lot toMarshfield Village trustees for use as a public square. The other lot he donated to the State of Wisconsin for agricultural purposes. In 1912, when West Allis incorporated as a city, Marshfield became part of that city's boundaries and remained so until its annexation by Chicago in 1974.
