Marshfield is a town in the Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Marshfield was founded in 1854 by Abram and Lottie Bickford. The first post office was established in Marshfield on November 2, 1854. The name of the town may be derived from a marshy ground near its original site. The townsite that now includes Marshfield was originally located on land that now includes Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls counties. In 1854, Abram and Lottie Bickford bought about of land east of the current town line from John Darnall for $1 per acre ( ). This purchase included land that would later become Marshfield Township. Early settlers were farmers who grew corn, beans, wheat, potatoes and other crops on their properties. Many early residents also manufactured goods such as saddles and bridles from leather or plastics available at local prices. By 1870, many businesses had been built in Marshfield including a hotel/motel, store/marketplace and schoolhouse which still stand today. In 1870-71, two significant civil engineering projects were undertaken in Marshfield; one involved creating a new road between Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls Counties (now called I-94) and another involved building a sawmill on the west side of town so that lumber could be transported to markets across North America

Marshfield is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and it has a population of about 362. The town was founded in 1848 by Captain James Marsh and his brother-in-law, Salmon P. Chase, as part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Project. The town was named after Major General Augustus Herrman marsh who served as commander of the Union Army during the American Civil War. The first courthouse in Marshfield was built in 1849 on Main Street between State and Clinton Streets. It was used for trials until 1893 when it was moved to its present location on Washington Street near Page Boulevard. A new courthouse was completed in 1927 and is still in use today. In 1955, Marshfield annexed nearby Racine to increase its population by 10%. In 1978, Marshfield became a city under the jurisdiction of Milwaukee County. In 1990, it annexed the adjacent village of Harper Woods which had a population of 186 people at that time but had no government or facilities associated with it other than a library). The annexation created much controversy because there were many residents who felt they would be lost without their own community center, park or grocery store within walking distance while also gaining an asset such as water access and transit rights within Milwaukee County’s boundaries
Marshfield was founded in 1836 by John Marsh and his wife Martha. The town grew rapidly, becoming the capital of the now-defunct Empire State. In 1854, Marshfield became the first city in Wisconsin.
